Question for the 49ers

Maybe he didn't want to lose his relegation clause.
Why would he agree to a larger release clause?

It is a 2 way thing.

I have an answer.

Sling ya fooking yankee hooks, and fook off home.

Your not welcome.

Maybe because in our relegation season he was as poor as most of them. Many fans thought he was a waste of money at £35m. £40m for him probably seemed a long way away from what he was worth at that point in time.
But I get your point, good practice would be to try and renegotiate his contract but maybe he wanted to keep his options open?

We will never know.

In this afternoon's presser, Farke sounded slightly panicked. He clearly didn't realise what he'd let himself in for at this shambles of a club.

I'm gutted he's going, he won me over quickly last season after initially joking that Hoffenheim had missed a decimal point in his fee. May as well let Willie go now, major rebuild needed and just 2 weeks to do it.

Apparently, the release clause was due to expire at midnight last night.

"I dont think Rutter is a front man and I hate to say it, but, I dont see any signs that he will realise the potential of being our most expensive signing so far."

If you can point me to some signs to the contrary in our matches please do.

Yesterday Bamford, pressed, tried to get involved, Sara. lot of the ball, won free kicks, Rutter looked to stand off a lot and was nowhere near being a centre forward, doesnt look like a front man to me which is what I thought he was supposed to be?

"Got to agree with Jonty.

Nobody has written him off.

But people are allowed to have a opinion on him.

For £35m, (Huge money for a young 20 year old) he has shown absolutely nothing.

Got a funny running style
Isnt ATM a uptop striker
Isnt fit enough

He will need time and hopefully he will come good.

You can look at a player and within 5 mins, think this kid really has something.

I havent felt that with him"

I'm sure there are many more examples of what fans thought of him back in 2023. Maybe the owners had the same opinion and decided at the time not to offer him a new contract - because if someone had come in and offered £40m for him after that season we would have been stupid not to take it.

Maybe the time to renegotiate was after the failure to go up last season but would he be interested when he knew he'd had a great season and some top tier team might come in for him? I'm not sure he would.

He doesn't answer the questions about the problems we face. Has he lost the dressing room, I wonder?

Confirmation from Adam Pope that he's gone.

Says club has sorted all the P & S queries prior but that they are legally bound to honour the release clause. Player has said an emotional goodbye today

I genuinely do not understand your point on why you’re quoting comments from months BEFORE we got relegated when my post talks about renegotiating contract a year AFTER relegation.

Did you actually read the post?

ahh - so you are saying we should have renegotiated his contract just after we failed to go up to the PL?

Do you really think he would have given them the time of day on that one? Plus the financial fall out from not going up was probably more important than trying to remove a clause that could actually save the club from getting a points deduction - if a team offered £40m for him.

After the playoff final the club knew they would have to offload a player or two to sort the finances. Gray was the only one they got an acceptable offer on and they say they had to accept it.

Brighton have been canny and waited until the last minute to exercise this release clause and even though we don't now need the money we have no way of stopping him from leaving.

Negotiations work both ways - the club can't just tell players to sign new contracts. He's 22 and will have advisers telling him what's best for his career and bank account.

Yes, you tie a player down when he is doing well, what is so hard to understand about that?

posted on 15/8/24

Would Rutter and his agent have even entertained it?

He clearly wants the move otherwise he wouldn’t be going, so why would he price himself out of it with a higher release clause in the contract?

posted on 15/8/24

Is asking for fit and proper owners just for once too much to ask ????

who knows....but when a player is finally showing good form, you try and tie them down.

We knew about this clause and I see no evidence of any action to protect us against the execution of this clause.

There is ZERO excuse now to not spend money in teh remainder of this window.

Any responsible owners would be properly managing these risks esoecillay when one can do contracts in their sleep.

And no responsible agent would agree to their client doing this.

It's called negotiation, you find something that works for all, we didn't do that.

posted on 15/8/24

Negotiations don’t happen when a player and agent can laugh at the club for thinking they’d sign a relegation clause for £60m.

Like just about everyone, I'm tired of the 49ers/every
fcking owner since Leslie Silver, spoon feeding us piles
of crap and then asking us to smile while we swallow.

Nothing adds up right now. Outside of the giant pile
of fees they have garnered from selling the soul of our
team. There are no clauses to oops there was a clause.

Sick of it. We should be bullying our way back to the
Prem. Instead of stumbling around like a drunk.
