The next captain of Man Utd Licha Martinez….
The Butcher, The man is simply perfect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When Yoro is back it will give Eth a selection headache having to choose a CB pair! Will it be Licha plus one Yoro or De Ligt or De Ligt and Yoro with Licha on LB duty?!
Slab had a good game tonight, maybe being fully aware his days being numbered gave him the required motivation to lift his game. Could he make a late bid to salvage his Utd career? He has to be shifted simply for the ridiculous contract he's on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, cos Yoro is a young lad, whose been heavily injured… he won’t really make an appearance til next year, providing the others stay fit.
Can’t Mazza play at LB? Put Dalot back,on the right side. Lissy and DeLigt CB pair.., think that’s the four we gonna see right now methinks…
That means we can’t play as high as we want to… so I think more tight games to come, except for the ones that feel confident to come at us, which works in our favour anyway.,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why can't we play high with that back four?
De Ligt is used to playing high - did so at Ajax and Bayern. Martinez likes to player higher as well and both Dalot and Mazraoui are mobile and quick.
Playing high isn't about having blistering pace. It's about mobility, aggression and being comfortable defending on the front foot and engaging rather than wanting to step off deep (like Evans does). De Ligt and Martinez both like to go into midfield to win the ball and defend in those areas aggressively, compressing the space from the back to the front. That's the key.
Ironically, despite his pace, Yoro I think will need to adapt more to the higher line. His style is to cover behind a more aggressive defender rather than go into duels in front of him, and although I don't watch Lille obviously, I imagine that they aren't dominating teams and therefore aren't higher up the pitch in possession a lot of the time compared to what a bigger club (Bayern) would be.

The way Mazraoui played RB, that position will remain his. Dalot needs to up his game to oust the Moroccan. Mazraoui can play LB but has only played this a handful of times, if that, same with Licha. I don't rate Dalot down the left, tonight was a classic example he's simply not good enough there. Maybe give Amass a run.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh, I think you could be right with Amass, cos I don’t trust Dalot on that left. He got away with it today… but I think he was told to help in attack. Lissy will cover…
You know, we should’ve tried a cheeky bid for Leif Davis at Ipswich? 🤔

Harry Amass is clearly not ready for the PL yet. I don't know what people thought they were seeing in preseason to think so. Good on the ball, quick and obviously talented, but a lot of things to learn and develop defensively and in his decision making before he's PL-ready. He looks like he's got a very good chance as the raw attributes are there, but he's nowhere near Dalot's level yet.

He's very raw but the talent is there. Got found out when he played against Salah in pre-season but how many experienced defenders come out on top against the Egyptian? Very few.
Maybe Amass is not ready as a starter but should be featuring within the squad. Absolutely no harm easing him in.
Maybe a loan move for an experienced LB could be the answer or maybe Licha is the guy. Dalot and Mazraoui can vie for RB.

It wasn't just Salah... He's not great in the air, switches off to runners off of him (because the pace of the game is quicker than he's used to), had several wrong calls in terms of knowing when to go for the ball versus when to sit off... Was evident in all the games he played.
Yes he's talented, but he's not ready for the PL yet. It's obvious.
