Pellistri looks to be moving. If we can shift McT for his asking price, and one or both of Lindelof and Hannibal, we could be looking at £45-£50m incoming.
If Sancho stays, Pellistri would probably have been fourth choice on the right; if Mount stays fit, Hannibal wouldn’t be getting a sniff; Lindelof is now fifth/sixth choice; and Zirkzee and Casemiro combined (particularly if Ugarte comes in) can more than cover the gap McT would leave.
Four out that we wouldn’t actually miss or need to worry about making signings to replace. That’d be excellent business.
Great price if true.
Surely someone wants Hannibal and Lindelof, I thought Jose was interested?
If we can swap Sancho for Ugarte and help each other out with FFP (or whatever it is) that would be great. Could also allow us to bring in 1 more player I reckon, either another CM or a LB.
Would love a LB and CM (if possible 2 CM) this window and that would be a very good start for Sir Jim and his team. If in the same window we get rid of McT, Pellistri, Lindelof and possibly Sancho then it's near perfect window with every key area addressed with deadwood removed. The squad will be shaped further next summer. Surely it's a cause for optimism.

If we lost McT, Casemiro and Eriksen, we’d have to bring in minimum two and probably three midfielders. Two would need to be ready to start games at a side hoping to challenge for a top four berth.

I firmly believe our midfield remains the limiter of the team and has been so for years. We will go as far as it takes us. When your best midfielder is teenager...
By the way we should have kept Amrabat if it was going to take so long to get someone in.

Long term, he has no future, this season while we have so many new faces he has surely secured a stay of execution unless we get a ridiculous offer we can't refuse from Saudi.
Berge?! What a shiiit signing that will be, only way we could top that is spanking 60m on braithwaite. Let’s hope it’s the Uruguayan fella.

If we were going to get a Saudi bud, he'll be gone by now. You don't "get back to form" at 31. Our midfield is literally flooded with 4 midfielders so it's shielding his flaws. The day we will need goals and put in strikers it will be exposed.

Ugarte the destroyer is the main target. Berge would be someone in-between, younger with a sell on value - worth the punt for now until we can upgrade next summer, he'll then provide the required competition within the squad.

Does your career end at 31?! Why can't you return to form? Casemiro is making a mockery of your claim with his early form. Why can't he sustain that? There is an argument he can't produce it every week then that's why we need younger long term recruits, Ugarte would be it. Casemiro would be his immediate understudy. We'll look to shift Casemiro next summer.

This happens fairly often actually - it's usually related to learning how to properly adjust to your legs not being what they once were, which sometimes takes a season or so.
For the record I would still let go of Casemiro if an offer came in - I don't think we'll ever see the Madrid version again. But it's not out of the question that he becomes somewhat useful again in a more coherent team.
Redastomatoes only rates teenagers, ideally ones that have never actually played first team football as well.

But these are cases of being the exceptions to the rule with many of these players to having runners to back . If we where champions trying to come back to repeat this would be different. What's even worse is if we need to pair him up with Mainoo, it will show up soon. It's been years since we could "afford" a player like casemiro.
You're moving the goalposts to your point, again.
Honestly, I will be sad to see McT go. A good honest professional, don't know if he wants to leave, maybe he wants regular first team football, he's know world beater but I think the type of guy who is good to have in the squad, and can get the odd goal too.
I assume Ugarte and/or another is coming in, because we seem incredibly light now in CM area. I don't think Casemiro should be starting a lot of games, he should be coming on against tired legs where he can have a steady presence but is also capable of a goal threat if necessary.
But right now, If Mainoo and Casemiro were both injured, who would we stick there? I know we have addressed CB and the forward area, but ideally we would have got someone in before letting McT go, unless a deal is really close
What were Ronaldo's stats like after he turned 30? I imagine they dropped off massively

In my mind, Ugarte becomes the ‘new Casemiro’, and Casemiro becomes the ‘new McT’ (in terms of being able to deputise when required, to be used in specific fixtures, and to come on later in games to use his physical and aerial qualities and to plunder goals).
*Should that work out* (heavy caveat), we could see a double upgrade insofar as Ugarte > Casemiro at DM and Casemiro > McT as backup/utility/late in game goal threat.
People seem to forget that Casemiro had several injury issues last season and as a result missing more games last season through injury than he had missed in the the six seasons combined prior.
It's obvious from watching him that he's a player that has to play a lot of games and minutes for sharpness and there's no doubt that such a disrupted season played a big role. Our preseason last summer was also a shambles and Casemiro never really looked fit to begin with. That may have contributed to him picking up injuries once the season began.
He's looks fitter coming into this season, was largely very good in preseason and was excellent against Fulham.
No midfielder can handle the amount of open space between attack and defence as was occurring regularly last season, so hopefully a combination of fitness and compactness in our team shape will see Casemiro back to something close to his best.
One other thing... He's still our best player in the air; winning duels, defending set pieces and attacking set pieces. That's an invaluable thing to have in the team (it's something Rodri brings to City as well) and not easily replaced. I don't think we can afford to lose that quality from the squad just yet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Instead of Pellestri and Hannibal, I was thinking Casemirio and Erijsen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we lost McT, Casemiro and Eriksen, we’d have to bring in minimum two and probably three midfielders.

He was good for 95% of his debut season, poor the following season, looks to have returned to levels seen from his debut season. Long term, he has no future, this season while we have so many new faces he has surely secured a stay of execution unless we get a ridiculous offer we can't refuse from Saudi.

But these are cases of being the exceptions to the rule with many of these players to having runners to back . If we where champions trying to come back to repeat this would be different. What's even worse is if we need to pair him up with Mainoo, it will show up soon. It's been years since we could "afford" a player like casemiro.

In my mind, Ugarte becomes the ‘new Casemiro’, and Casemiro becomes the ‘new McT’ (in terms of being able to deputise when required, to be used in specific fixtures, and to come on later in games to use his physical and aerial qualities and to plunder goals).
*Should that work out* (heavy caveat), we could see a double upgrade insofar as Ugarte > Casemiro at DM and Casemiro > McT as backup/utility/late in game goal threat.
posted on 19/8/24
People seem to forget that Casemiro had several injury issues last season and as a result missing more games last season through injury than he had missed in the the six seasons combined prior.
