6ft2. Tony Pulis legacy continues to go along with the 4 CBs and defensive midfielders.

Dunno what striker you expect to rely on getting 25 goals. There is only one and City aren't selling us Haaland. Even Kane only did it once in his last 5 seasons in PL.

good signing
I think he's a v good player

posted on 23/8/24

it's a v good price for him too

if he was playing for Basque rivals Athletic Club rather than La Real, they wouldn't have accepted anything less than £60M for him

He has been consistently very good for sociedad for 2/3 seasons now. One of the best midfielders for winning his "duels" in the world.

Very good signing.

Victor Osimeh

We should try to sign him, won't be any better opportunities, Chelsea have pulled out it seems.

Osimhen has only scored >25 goals once - and that is in all competitions too!
His second best league total is 15 - Kai has scored 9 in 13 in the PL as a striker for us.
Not sure why one would assume Osimhen would be someone to rely on 25 league goals a season.

Victor in their current team and in our team is a diff proposition? We create so much....and seen Havertz is a good player, no doubt but not that cutting edge clinical striker.

25 goals in all competitions, not just PL.

Napoli have created a lot in his 4 seasons there, very attacking team.
His best in all comps is 31, but his next best is 20. He also has a very poor injury record.
Then there is his much publicised bad attitude that not only means he isn't likely to fit the Arteta philosophy but is also the reason no-one else is prepared to go for him.

Havertz up top fits our system perfectly imo, it allows the whole team to contribute to scoring, relying on one man to get all your goals isn't how we play...also, if Chelsea have pulled out of the deal, thats saying a lot in itself anyway.

Always felt Osimhen wasnt our kind of signing. I thought we might try to tempt Newcastle for Isak, but unlike with Rice he is clearly happy enough where he is for now!

I think Arteta is probably happy with Havertz through the middle, who's not top top class but he is pretty decent there and crucially works well with Ode, Saka, Marti and Trossard. Very difficult to find someone with all the same characteristics.

Just wish he was a bit more clinical, better striker of the ball. Saw it against Wolves that odd scoop wide.

Personally I thought Toney seems an obvious candidate especially at 40-50m (I thought they'd get £65m+ for him) but it seems he was never on our radar - probably not the personality Arteta wants.

i forgot this guy stunk it up at newcastle

Arsenal were scouting Osimhen for 3 years, so to suggest he wasn't Arteta's type is a lot of revisionism. The fact is Osimhen is now older and wants too much money to justify a backup role. And that's what Arteta is looking for - a backup. It's quite clear that Arteta is happy with Havertz and Jesus. I believe we wanted Sesko to replace Jesus at the start of the summer but its all too late now to sell.

We can always sign a quality wide player and move Martinelli to the inside as a different type of striker in a rotation. I think thats a more likely scenario at this late stage.

by that i mean will we see owt of him? who does he replace, rice and odegaard nailed on leaving 1 position between him partey jorginho vieira? is he better than a fit partey?

Merino is the best press midfielder in Liga. (Highest duel stats in the final third). He also has terrific creative/attack stats from the box position. So I expect Rice to go back to no.6 when Merino is fully up to Premier League pace. Partey hasn't been offered an extension, so we expect him to leave this summer or in Jan.

Firstly Partey .... Yes I think he is better than him.
Secondly you will play over 50 games this season , you need a minimum of 5 CMs if you play with a 3 for the season.
