Lee Carsleys England Squad...

How important is getting promoted back to League A in terms of qualifying draws? I'd like to see him try new faces and ideas but not so many it comes at the expense of not winning the group.

Think the World Cup qualifiers are done on co-efficients. Not 100% on that.

Hope Ben White gets in, thought Walker had an OK-ish Euro's but he'll be 36 for the next major one, so I think his time is done.

Harvey Elliott might get a look in if Bellingham’s got a knock. I’d be surprised to see anyone else for Carsley’s last squad get brought up to the seniors.

I’m interested to see what he does about left back, given the lack of options.

Not that important. It won’t impact world cup qualifying as that’s based on world rankings, and for Euro qualifying you’d suspect England will be granted entry as host nation.

Yeah forgot it was WC qualifying next anyway. Did they decide how they were handling the hosts qualifying , last I heard only 2 or 3 were guaranteed an auto spot and the others may have to qualify. Though it would surely be a formality for England anyway

Surely Rico Lewis gets in?
Trippier, Walker, Gomez and Dunk surely not worth having for these games from Euro24 squad.

Also Rogers > Elliott.

Tbf didn’t include Lewis as he’s already been capped and I don’t think he was in Carsley’s last squad.

Wouldn’t be surprise if he’s in. Though I think Walker will still be.

Pun, hasn’t been decided yet. Whatever they decide, it’ll be something that basically guarantees us a qualifying spot I’m sure.

I doubt that will be the thinking within the England set up. Especially as Rogers is more likely to be competing for a wide spot whereas Elliott would be a central player.

Why would a CM like Rogers be competing for a wide position? Elliott plays wide more than central.

posted on 28/8/24

Rogers is a wide player. Played on the left for the u21s when he finally got called up as well. Elliott would play centrally more often if he wasn’t at Liverpool, like he has for the u21s.

Rogers played Central in both his u21 caps - he played as false 9 each time.
He plays central for Villa too.

posted on 28/8/24

Oh I saw highlights and he was coming off the left in them, but the u21s attack aren’t static so that’s probably why then. Still, it wasn’t playing cm. He’s playing off the left in games for Villa as well. I don’t see them competing for a similar spot for England. Doubt either will get in anyway, but I’d fancy Elliott if a central position opens up. Maybe Rogers gets in if the wide players are struggling, we’ll see.

Jones and Elliott are his u21 favourites. I'll be surprised if neither are in it. I suspect Jones over Elliott though, he drove the u21s to victory.

Unlikely either of them get called up.

Biggest surprise for me simply as I haven't heard anything about him recently, but interesting pick.
