I was one of those that felt ETH should have gone in the summer, but when we decided to keep him, I said I would support him and hope he proves me wrong.

But just as we knew that previous managers weren't the answer, we prob all know deep down that ETH isn't the answer, and that's not just based on the latest result.

I would even go as far to say that some of the issues are of Ineos' own making.....

It was crazy to speak to so many different managers in the summer and then say to ETH, ok you can stay. What type of endorsement is that? If they wanted ETH to stay, they should have made that decision quickly and given him their backing. Doing it the way they did it, it was like, there's no-one else about so we'll keep you - hardly a ringing endorsement and no manager should be treated that way.
And ETH was so desperate to proof himself that he let them treat him like that. But it just puts it in his head that 'they don't really want me', no matter what is said in public. A impossible position for any manager.

I would also add that part of the problem is that whilst ETH did well to win 2 trophies, there is so much 'bad baggage' with him, in terms of so many poor results, no coherent way of playing - forget injuries, it's crazy we are in his 3rd year and still see no resemblence of a team of what ETH wants or what his style of play is etc. Some have suggested he doesn't have a style of play - how crazy is that??!! He would be the only manager of the top clubs that you would watch and say, nope, I can't see what ETH wants them to do.

ETH has been here 2 years and had to cope with a lot of crap. Not in a good way, it's felt like 5 years. He has done a lot for us, but it needs fresh eyes, to bring in new impetus, with a more attractive way of playing to take the next step. I honestly feel anyone in ETH's shoes would struggle in being the person who dealt with all the crap and now needs to be the guy who inspires us to be so much better - he just can't change the pass as if he's not been associated with that.

Hopefully you get what I mean.
ETH will still be here for a wee while, but it really feels like when, not if.

ETH has had the summers and January's to build his own team now. He's won a few trophies just about so he's got the next few months to deliver or he will deserve the sack.

Robb and Culer wanting him gone after 12 months are morons. You give a manger adequate time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would give him atleast til Xmas. His signings count as a black mark, a keeper who seems to have the arms of mr tickle, and a Brazilian forward who is the footballing representation of a snake eating its own tail endlessly. By silly to sack him now

I think he’ll get the season and they’ll look at it again in the summer. I’m more concerned by their failure to address the midfield and attack. Going into the season with these options was asking for trouble.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The midfield is not working because of the way the manager sets it up. Bruno’s terrible lack of discipline, the fact that he is always all over the pitch makes it extremely difficult for Casimero and Mainoo to control the game. They look good with disciplined players like Mount or Ambrabat.

SE85 - I do try and see the positive but today perhaps tipped me over the edge. It's not like we were that terrible either. It's just that this kind of performance is becoming the norm. It's not a once in a blue moon kind of thing. It would help if we had a class forward like Salah though. In truth LFC weren't great either and they won't be close to City or Arsenal either at the season's end.

Baz - no WUM here today!

Do you not think Liverpool were very good?
I thought they were, the scoreline flattered us imo

I honestly thought they were better in the league game at OT last season.

We’ve scored two goals in three games, despite numerous chances across those games, plus all the other positions we’ve got into where the final ball is utter shiiiiit. The lack of goals has been a problem for bloody years, we just don’t score enough because we don’t have top attacking players.

We got lucky in the 2 games in the league last season. Liverpool have dominated us in most of the league games for the past 5 years or so now.

We should be raising our games against them but rarely do and just tend to go in our shell.

Don't forget Slot is just settling in as well - hard to be critical of a guy who has won his first 3 games.

They weren't great, yet put us away 3-0.

I wonder what impact, if any, is EtH's grasp of the English language affecting the messages he sends the players.

Although he can speak the language and understand it, he is not the most fluent at putting his words together. Compare it Slot.

It makes me smile a bit that we've had two Dutch managers and that they're possibly the two worst Dutchmen in terms of the grasp of the English language!

Hey, it's all just opinions.

The reason I mentioned Slot, is because I'm not sure you can be so certain that Liverpool won't be there at the end of the season. He can only get better as the season goes on, and he's made a great start already.

Of course not everything will be smooth, but hard to argue with the start - there seems to be a freshness with Liverpool, which I know you can get with a new manager, but he looks pretty settled already.

I think we can both agree that Liverpool have been better than us in most of the recent league games - we are a good bit behind them at the moment.

I really don’t see the point of sacking a manager 3 games into a season after the club have backed him in the transfer market as well as bringing in new coaches.

Is he doing well enough, of course not but at least give him time to see what he can achieve with what he wants.

Is there an obvious candidate to come in if EtH was sacked?

I do look back on last summer's business, like I do pretty much every summer and think if we'd just waited another year to sign a centre forward and instead brought in Marcus Thuram on a free, not signed Mount, signed two actual midfielders and bought Toney this summer, we'd have been much better off, under Ten Hag or any other manager.

Failure to sign a quality winger has also got us into this mess because Rashford is shiiiiiit now, Antony is Antony and Amad and Garnacho are not consistent premier league level wingers.

It’s going to take a long time to get the forward line into the shape it needs because we cannot just go out and sign the top attackers in football either. I fear we’ll have to wait for younget talent to develop, but that’s difficult to predict and doesn’t help attract the best managers either.

You are right. There is no point. Ten Hag and Ruud are going have to get a tune out of these players before its too late. He should have gone last season before the Cup Final. Ole was right. Winning a domestic cup can boost the ego of certain managers who otherwise are incapable of mounting a challenge for the big 2 trophies with the players they have assembled.

Im sure INEOS have a plan B manager in mind if the Ten Hag gamble doesnt pay off.

That’s true but that also isn’t on the manager. We at least seem to have improved in that area and whoever is manager next summer should at least have a competent team selection players to buy.

I think any sane manger wants EtH to succeed but that doesn’t mean we will make excuses for him when he fails.
