A ”small speed bump.”

posted 2 weeks, 3 days ago

Yesterdays result and performance could not have came as any surprise to anyone that has watched either team this season.

A well deserved but highly predictable win for Celtic.

As I have said previously Rangers are not even close to being capable of challenging for the league this season. We have tried to 'rebuild' on a budget whilst reducing the wage bill at the same time. This is where bargain buys and loans inevitably get you.

We have much bigger problems than yesterday and they are not going to be solved overnight.

I think Rangers can improve if a couple of the new guys that havent played yet come good but there is still a glaring lack of quality in key areas.

HH … Fair comments, but must be concerning that your “rebuilding on a budget” still involved a net spend in this window of over £22m MORE than Celtic’s, and none of our new guys even started yesterday (bar the keeper replacement)?

“Celtic brought in £10.59m more in the summer transfer market than they spent, Aberdeen made a profit of £2.67m, Motherwell were up £1.34m and Heart of Midlothian £1.01m, but Hibernian spent £438,460 more than they brought in, while Rangers' net spend was £11.71m. (Edinburgh Evening News)“

Rangers believe it or not go into the international break in 4th place in the league that’s fooking shocking and I would honestly not be surprised at all if they lose at Tannadice after the break to a team who are tbf above them in the league

its 4 games in and i think rangers have managed the off-putting move to hampden well enough, that could have been bad.

yesterday, well, tactics were just stupid quite frankly.

i've watched teams with lesser quality come to parkhead and sit tight to frustrate us, and hit us on the counter, with some success.

Rangers plan to press high was absurd, we are rapid on the counter. we managed the press well and punished them when we got the ball.

suicide tactics.

You can spin it whatever way you want.

Celtic had an established (and big) squad that have won the majority of domestic trophies in recent years. Several of the fringe assets were sold for good money and one key asset (purchased for £1.5m) was sold for an unprecedented £25m+.

Celtic clearly are a well run club who have had great success in the transfer market.

Rangers started off with out of contract players leaving for nothing, virtually no sellable assets and very little cash to pay for fees.

So yes regardless of the spin you can put on the relative net spend figures we were trying to rebuild on a budget.

A more pertinent figure would be right now what is the valuation of Celtics starting eleven yesterday compared to Rangers?

Back of a ciggie packet sums I would say Celtics starting eleven current market value is 2-3 times Rangers. Easily.

Celtics bench yesterday probably had a higher current market value than our entire starting eleven.

Its not an excuse. This is all Rangers fault for years of mismanagement - poor recruitment, big contracts for average players, not selling assets when they had a value etc.

But the reality is, the outcome of yesterday game is exactly what should happen when these two teams meet.

You can pick whatever pantomime villain you want that makes you feel better.

For me one of the biggest culprits in recent years on the football side was Ross Wilson.

I think he was an utterly clueless charlatan who bet the house on Beale because he wasnt capable or qualified enough to see right through him. Instead he got all giddy and backed him to bring in a littany of underperforming players like Yilmaz, Lammers, Dessers, Cantwell, Raskin, Danilo, Matondo etc.

Plus we gave expensive extended deals to guys like Tav and Goldson just as they were beginning to get past their sell by date.

Theres been a lot of mismanagement over the years at Rangers but for me the one that has done the most to put us right in the current hole is been Ross Wilson.

Hes an absolute clown who somehow dazzles the numpties who run football clubs with his powerpoint presentations and talk of models and structures. Any short term decisions he makes (eg appointing Beale fail miserably) and hes not there long enough to see through the long term stuff he waffled about because he bu99ers off after a couple of years to start the whole process again at another unfortunate club.

Theres too many guys like Wilson in the game these days and it just amazes me how they get away with it for so long.

Wasn't trying to "spin" anything. Just pointing out some interesting facts from today's papers, in a thread titled "From today's papers". Think we're all in agreement that your club has been run like a basket case for a very long time, so no arguments there.
