Tilly Smith (born 1994) is a British woman who, as a child, was credited with saving the lives of approximately 100 beachgoers at Mai Khao Beach in Thailand by warning them minutes before the arrival of the tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Smith, who was ten years old at the time, had learned about tsunamis in her geography class.

What’s the reasoning anyway? I suspect it’s some tenuous, bullshiiiit factoid.

😅

Well King George III was mad and amongst other things had lycanthropia where he howled at the moon and thought he was a werewolf. That madness was one of the reasons why he didn’t commit as many men to the defence of the colony when the revolution started and the rest is history

Brilliant.

A Blackadderesque explanation of events, of a 'Great Boo's up' proportion.

Thousands of Moken, a nomadic Indian Ocean sea people, were saved from the tsunami. They recognised the signs thanks to an ancient folk tale passed down generation after generation that tells of the Laboon, the seventh wave that eats people.

Not necessarily a fun fact but I just finished a great book called the Stranger Beside Me which is a true account of this woman who used to work at a suicide hotline with Ted Bundy. He saves many lives before he started killing people.

A giant squid's brain is surprisingly small compared to its eyes. The brain of a giant squid is roughly the size and shape of a donut, with a diameter of about 2.5 centimeters (1 inch). This is quite small considering the overall size of the animal.

In contrast, the eyes of a giant squid are among the largest in the animal kingdom. A giant squid's eyes can measure up to 25 centimeters (about 10 inches) in diameter—about the size of a basketball. These massive eyes help them see in the dark depths of the ocean.

To put it in perspective, the brain of a giant squid is about 10 times smaller in diameter than its eyes, emphasizing how disproportionately large their eyes are relative to their brain size.

That's what ChatGPT reckons, anyway.
