Bentancur Charged.

"Tend to agree with this. Any complaints the FA will have received will likely just be a collection of Twitter's ever increasing mob of narcissistic, virtue signallers. I doubt they were actually offended. They just wanted to be the first to call foul play."

Abhorrent take. Just because your sheltered white self didn't take offence to this, doesn't mean you get to dictate what other people do or don't take offence to.

I would happily leave that to the Asian community to decide.

Suarez got 8 matches I think so it's a bit of a slam dunk tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah but saying what Bents said, and using the N-word, slightly different ends of a scale of offence.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s still racism, there’s no limit on it. Not surprised a Tory cuuuunt like you is excusing racism though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not denying its racism you simpleton.

The very fact that there is a sliding scale of punishment supports my point that racism can cause offence at different levels.

Saying the Scots are ginger and pasty could be called racist. I can think of far worse incidents of racism which will get you arrested and jailed, let alone charged by the FA.

Same end of the racism scale though

Well seeing as Bentancur has admitted his error, and apologised for what he said say it all really. Poor judgement by him.

But at least he has been big enough and self aware enough to admit this, rather than deny it and have the team take to the pitch on Sunday with Bentancur T-shirts on.

I am not condoning what Bents has said whatsoever you clown so grow up.

I remember how much the scouse fans moaned and cried conspiracy when Suarez was found guilty. Hoody being one at the front of that queue on here. Fackin embarrassing that was!

I wonder how many Asians actually made up that collection of complaints? Don't get me wrong, there's validity to the claims, of course there is, but a large portion of those complaining could just as easily be rival club fans with a completely different ethnic background to those who 'should' technically be offended.

The world isn't prepared to discuss grey area anymore. Debate has disappeared. For instance, if my nan said something mildly racist in her 90s, it's not great but it's a product of her background and a different time. It's completely different to someone in their 20s doing the same thing. No one wants to talk about that. Everything is very linear and black or white, so to speak.

In this instance, Bentancur, with his background and the norms of his country, is basically my nan in that comparison. I'm not saying it's forgivable but the idea that you throw the book at someone no matter where they're from seems harsh to me.

If this were a blanket punishment for everyone though, I'd understand a little more but how can we see a punishment of this kind, yet Enzo get nothing for his chanting? That's where there's a problem.

Your "whataboutery" claim would hold some substance if you weren't the one defining hypocrisy in such a way. You're in no position to hold other fans to account. Pizz off back to your own club.

It’s such a silly ban if he gets one (which he will now he’s been charged).

Just find it weird how people don’t have a filter on this stuff by now.

As a player I really like him, just seem to rarely see him play.

Bentancur and Bissouma both have so much quality but you rarely see it though through one reason or another

being able to field those two and Maddison in a midfield three each week would really make a lot of difference

Not many stronger threes in the Prem really.

Great opportunity for Anderson though.

Hope you smash Arsenal Sunday fwiw. I’ve watched two of your games so far, thought you looked good in both despite the result.

But in this instance he should be getting a ban (although the reported 6-9 does seem high). I think its more than reasonable for the FA to determine racism=ban, and adjust the length of ban depending on the offence.

With Enzo, I don't really know much about the outcome of the event. It was done after Bentancur's so will we expect a strong punishment in a few weeks?

Yeah, I agree. Where the player has been so honest and full in his apology and where Son has accepted that i feel that the matter has been dealt with but if the FA need to ban then fair enough, it sends the right message. I thought 1 or 2 games - but the 6 - 12 seems not to really match the crime.

The comparison was made with Suarez, a player who racially abused another play while playing against him, then denied it making some feeble defence....clearly a player not understanding of his words and actions, and thus cannot be remorseful and accept he has done wrong. - 8 games.

This is very different to Bentancur.

The Enzo situation was a far more offensive song, but also a player who has apologised and accepted his error. I would expect him to get more than Bentancur but certainly less than Suarez.

Suarez is a ridiculous reference point to bring up though, it was over a decade ago. A completely different time, a completely difference circumstance and I'd imagine (and hope) the rules have changed significantly since then.

It wasnt the 1970s when you could say what you like without sanction

It is the precedent that other cases are judged on and back then the minimum game ban was 6 and now its guided as 6-12.
