Lack of player fitness has been a Ten Hag trait. Dont remember it being an issue with previous, post Fergie managers.

These were key features under EtH, as he was the first manager to overhaul our playing style and demand more from the squad, demands that this group failed to meet. Firstly, the team wasn’t conditioned properly to play the high energy football required. Secondly, the quality was lacking, primarily due to the profile of players recruited or already at the club to play high energy football.

We all know what TH wanted the players to do.

Thirdly nobody is quite sure what TH did with the players at Carrington everday, but clearly the fitness of the players regressed so much under him that they would never be able to play his kind of pressing game even if they felt like it. TH always moaned that he couldnt get his players to play the game he wanted to them to because they werent the right profile (lazy cant) players. But really didnt do much to try and change them into it. Mainly because they refused to/ wouldnt listen to him/didnt understand what he as asking of them and do as he instructed. Whch is probably more of a failure of management (in any sector) than player/staff power. Even the dutch based players that he did bring in couldnt/wouldnt do it. TH was a disaster at United.

Seriously though. I know personnel is limited but surely there are alternatives we can try instead of the 100% failure rate of Dalot in this position etc.
We are playing 6 extremely defensively minded players every game and our defence is the worst it's been this season.
