Our performances have improved, but that doesn't mean they are that good, and we aren't getting the results we need. Part of the issue is that I feel the expectation level has dropped, because of how we have played in the past 12 months or so. Any improvement is welcome, but we still aren't great, and nowhere near where we want to be.

With regards to the OP, cups are nice, but cups are no reflection of how good a team are - never have been and never will be. Great teams can win cups, but so can ropey ones. And for a club like ours, winning cups should never be enough.

SAF was a one off and no-one will be like him again. It's a different era and ETH has never shown that he has the communication and man-management skills to get us to where we really want to be - to think otherwise is simply dreaming, and even trying to compare him to SAF does him no favours either.

We will improve under him because we can't really get much worse, but the improvement won't be to a level which we really want. It will be someone else who can hopefully get us there

we will improve because INEOS have taken over the football side of the club and want to run the show like a proper sporting club should be run, after years of the Glazer circus since Fergie and Gill called it a day

INEOS' problem is that they have put their faith in TH as the first team coach. I think they might have to find out that the next coach they appoint might be able to take INEOS nearer to where they want to be than TH.

I agree with this. And there may well be more pain to take.

What I would say is the youth system is improving massively already and we've conclusively overtaken City in that regard in the last year or two. It doesn't guarantee a Cole Palmer but it shows we're improving from the ground up and hopefully that will bear some homegrown fruit.

But the fact we've done that shows we are getting things right from the bottom up. And we may be on the way up. I just don't think that will happen under ETH. But we'll see how things go. Having a strong foundation is always a good thing
