Macca, on Mateo, not sure he can do much else.
Farke doesn't play to the CF. He seems to love
playing to his wingers. And both our wingers like
to shoot. Leaves Mateo looking for scraps.

Yeah fair enough Batts and I suppose he is worrying the opposition defence and that creates space for others to score but it would be nice to see him sticking one away given the chance today.

I heard someone on the radio in the week talking
about Emery at Villa. Takes over a team in a slump.
Makes no real additions. Coaches them up. Now
they're flying. Great coaching did that.


I feel same about this squad in someone else's hands.
What ifs and all that.

I’d be really interested to see the trajectory of investment at Leeds v Villa from the date of Emery’s appointment to our demise from the premier league. In my head, I still believe that backing Bielsa financially - as Villa seemed to do with Emery - would have seen us in their place today.

Ps - Batty, not disputing the coaching aspect either but I believe Bielsa did all he could with the level of players he had at the time, whereas Villa had a stronger squad on paper to coach from.

Emery has Monchi.

Bielsa had Orta.

That's a huge difference.

Emery joined Villa in 2022. Villa were 16th at the time
and in a relegation fight. By Prem standards, he's hardly
spent a penny compared to other clubs. Ross Barkley
from Luton this summer and Maatsen from Chelsea
highlight his business alongside Monchi.

Bielsa and Emery were not head to head appointments.

But, we know Bielsa could've turned a pub team into
a Prem outfit with no signings either. Both excellent
coaches in their own right.

IMO Bruce was never a top-level manager. 2nd or 3rd tier about right.
