Emery joined Villa in 2022. Villa were 16th at the time
and in a relegation fight. By Prem standards, he's hardly
spent a penny compared to other clubs. Ross Barkley
from Luton this summer and Maatsen from Chelsea
highlight his business alongside Monchi.

Bielsa and Emery were not head to head appointments.

But, we know Bielsa could've turned a pub team into
a Prem outfit with no signings either. Both excellent
coaches in their own right.

Just been looking… when Emery was appointed, Leeds were 11th and Villa 12th after 10 games. In the winter transfer market, Villa spent £30m* and we spent £53 (of which over £40m was on Rutter, who didn’t feature). At the time, according to Transfer Market.com, the Villla squad was worth £509m compared to Leeds £345m, suggesting Emery had plenty more to coach from than Bielsa had. The following season Villa spent £111m compared to our £30m. If we’d have just stayed up and backed Bielsa financially I’m sure we’d be in the champions league by now.
