I've only seen what he said about palmer and thought he came across really well, haven't seem him do anything else.
Just read the rest of your post and realised thats what you was complaining about.
I'd watch it rather than read it. He has a good point. he is similar to Bergkamp in that the game seems to slow down around him.
He wasn't saying one is better and looks like you got the wrong end of the stick.
Also i'm not sure bergkamp ever got close to palmers numbers, and you will say yeah but thats not what bergkamp was about, but its not all palmers about either.
Palmer is arguably the best player in the league atm, was bergkamp ever that? Just playing devils advocate here.
not even in the same stratosphere
Bergy did it at all levels, Palmers just getting started.
My main gripe is with Walcott comparing him to Bergy....next he'll be saying he's better than Henry needs to lay off the koolaid
the best player in the league atm, was bergkamp ever that?
======
Yes. In fact he was voted 3rd best player in the world!
so you cant compare a players playstyle now?
And Bergkamp didnt really do it at all levels, he scored only 7 goals in 40 CL games and the furthest he got was the quarter finals.
Now not Sh!tting on bergkamp, was a great player, but dont get so defensive for someone comparing him whilst complementing both.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can see he was voted 4th in 1997, fair play to him, like I say great player. But a.) he wasnt saying who was better and b.) its not like palmers a scrub. Has a legitimate claim to being the best in the league atm
*3rd.
I was just answering your question.
I remember Bendtner having a great run but no one was comparing him to R9
It's just ridiculous...there's nothing in Palmers play that's reminiscent of Bergy or VanPagan......not yet anyway.
For instance, I'll wager Chelsea fans aren't saying he's like Drogba or Zola
Out of interest, were you equally outraged when Wenger compared a young Fabregas to Platini?
I'm going to hazard a guess that you were less bothered about that.
Bergkamp was a great player, no doubt about it. And comparing Palmer to him is high praise. But that's what the media do when a new talent emerges and frankly, Palmer does look a special talent. Drawing parallels to Bendtner and R9 just makes you look stupid tbh.
Bergy did it at all levels, Palmers just getting started.

It's Nick you're talking to here. Half a seasons good form for Chelsea is enough to rankings you amongst the all-time greats.

Not sure why people get annoyed about this kind of thing. You can't expect pundits to compare modern players to obscure players from the past as it wouldn't mean much to a lot of viewers. They want easily recognisable reference points. Bergkamp wasn't just a big name but a player with a distinctive style. It doesn't have to be denigrating to compare a modern player to him.

yeah a very strange article
Each to their own I guess, but from what I’ve seen of him so far, Theo is head and shoulders above most of his pundit peer group.
Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if he were to succeed Lineker hosting MotD in a few years time either.
