Pep next England manager? Or Tuchel!

Not a chance in hell.

First up, there are strong rumours that he's going to sign an extension to allow the new DOF to bed in.

Secondly, he's also stated that he's going to take a sabbatical away from football after he's completed his 10 years at City.

Hasn’t won a Euros or World Cup yet, he wants to complete the CV

I'd be MORE than surprised, never say never but just cannot see it happening.

Probably more likely to give City another season then a break then have his pick of whatever is available or whatever club can give him something he fancies, wont be short of offers

Why would he not manage Spain but manage England?

In that case can't see him managing England as they don't like to let countries leave either...

Maybe he will be interested in 2/3 years time but he won’t be leaving City just to immediately take on another job.

This is just a case of less serious football gossip and low-end media putting 2+2 together and getting 115

Being a successful international manager depends a lot more on good luck compared to being a club manager. If you look at all the successful international managers over the years, how many have been successful at club level also? Many of them haven't tasted the same success in the club game.

That doesn't mean Pep couldn't be a successful England manager, and perhaps its one of the few jobs that would appeal to his ego in terms of 'I'll show them that I can win with England'. Against that would be could he bothered with all the hassle etc.

Obviously, no unitary state warmly embraces the idea of secession, but the UK did hold an independence referendum in Scotland when that was te democratic will of the residents of the country. I think there's a contrast to be drawn with the more repressive fashion in which the Spanish state has interacted with Catalan and Basque independence movements in our lifetimes.

Meanwhile in football, of course a Scottish or Welsh nationalist has the ability to support / play for / manage their national side, as opposed to a UK team.

Can’t see this happening. England manager should be English anyway.

Guardiola managing a national team would be an interesting test of the assumption we often make that it's impossible to get a team playing tactically refined positional football when they don't get to train together very often. From that point of view, it would be particularly interesting to see what he'd do with England, whose players are drawn from clubs playing probably a more diverse range of styles than any other major footballing country. If he managed Spain, there's a more defined Spanish style, which owes a lot to Guardiola himself, so that would probably be a great fit but a less revealing experiment.

Get the last English manager to win the English top division. It's that simple. You want the best and most successful manager from your country, managing the national team.

I actually disagree - a successful club manager does not equate to a successful international manager. Some managers are just better at handling international management, some are better at the day to day running of a club. You don't really know until they are in the job, but there's no real blueprint as to what makes a successful international manager

I get that many English managers can win the PL but it's much tougher to translate that success in to national team success. But maybe give at least ONE of them a chance to try?

Don’t think he’d ever take it so it’s a moot point but it would be interesting to see how he does. Think his rigidity to a particular style is overegged a fair bit, he’s more pragmatic than people think, particularly in the midfield and attacking third, and has been since Bayern.

You joke, but I’m serious. I don’t think international managers should be allowed to come from another nation. It defeats the point of international football.

Yeah it would make it more fair. English fans and media are too used to the PL where they can just buy in the best foreigner to manage the team. They seem to expect that same privilege at international level.

The players already benefit from that foreign management at club level. Doesn't seem right also having them mollycoddled by a foreign manager at International level as well.

At some point the English have to do some actual work themselves instead of just taking the glory for what talented foreigners do, just because some oil people invested some money into English football.

There’s now a report Tuchel is in talks to be the next manager. As much as I want him to take over at United I would laugh so much if a German took over the England role 😂
