He took over a Villa side near the bottom and without making too many signings took them to the CL. He’s certainly more equipped to help our rabble than most. Doubt he’d take a step down from Villa now sadly.
I say that flippantly but it’s not exactly far from the truth 😹
King Unai has everything he wants with us. Great owners who are very ambitious and will back him as much as they can under PSR conditions. A Club with a clear direction on and off the pitch now and moving forward. He's got the keys to the kingdom and we all love him.
All Utd have is a name and memories. Who knows what Sir Jim is even doing in improving things, an embarrassing manager and most of your players are a disgrace to the shirt with appalling attitudes. It's a more toxic environment to the one he went into at Arsenal.
Besides Ruud will be in before Jan 1st.
Villa have been buying well and selling well for a while now, and doing so around a pretty clear idea of what they want to do on the field. Having a really high quality coach is a game changer, of course, but I think he joined a club that was well primed to be taken to the next level. We saw how Emery performed at Arsenal, at a time of less strategic clarity, which was OK but not spectacular.
I'm not saying Emery wouldn't do a better job than ETH. But I don't think he'd walk into Carrington and have the kind of transformative effect he had at Villa. Maybe he would do if he joined in 12 or 24 months. But then again, so might a number of other coaches.
He can only really be successful at teams with Villa in their name.
Villa
Villarreal
Sevilla
For him to do a reasonable job, the team must at least have a "V" in it, as in Valencia.
A complete lack of "V" in the name, then he will fail.
I don't make the rules.
I’d take him tomorrow. He transformed Villa in a matter weeks without signing a single player.
1. Would cost a fortune by manager standards
2. Of course they can stop him leaving
3. I don't know, he seems to be a manager who can get mid table sized club to overachieve but he's failed in his 2 big jobs. He even failed to win the league with PSG.
4. There has to be a manager out there who can improve things drastically.

Unless we started spelling the name using the classical Latin alphabet:
Welcome to Manchester Vnited, Vnai Emery!
Think it was highlighted a while ago at his best his teams generally get around 1.8pts per game over a season (the outlier being PSG, for obvious reasons).
And few weeks ago I think his Villa record was similar to his Arsenal record.
If this is correct would this be enough for United?
Stay at Villa, get backed by the owners and the fans and continue to see a fantastic team improve and achieve wonderful things.
Or join one of the most toxic football clubs on thr planet with a squad of inflated salaries and egos, with nobody playing for the shirt and the manager being a constant scapegoat.
Not going to happen.
My worry is that he’s only ever achieved success at medium tier clubs. His time at Arsenal and PSG weren’t great.
However. I like his style of football, and right now that’s my priority as a match going fan. I can accept we aren’t title challengers and probably won’t be for the foreseeable.
So yes, I think he’d be a good successor to ETH given the options available.
Would he move here? Not this season for sure, maybe in the summer, that depends on Villas ambitions and where we finish up in the league.

No definitely not
United would get a bounce if he was to walk into Carrington. But I dont think he would be any better than TH has been when it all irons out. He really has to finish his project at Villa first. He wouldnt walk away from that I dont think for anybody.
Villa have the same situation as United. Ambitious and serious owners (responsible for the football operations) looking to bring back winning ways after a long period of under achievement, who have money, and a large supporter base (especially locally in the W Midlands) and who seem to have established an ambitious set up and process to get there. But as United wil/are finding out, that's not enough. You need the right man managing and coaching the players on a daily basis who they would basically die for if he asked them. Which is why I am surprised that Emery has found his spiritial home at Villa Park of all places so quickly, (he was becoming a bit of a journey man) without actually changing much. He has just got the players to sing his tune. However if you listen to what the players say about him and the Villa supporters, it really seems to have clicked for them all.
United on the other hand havent yet found their man yet. And it shows.

I don’t think Emery would make a grate deal of difference. He’s a good coach, but I think he works better at the smaller clubs where the expectations aren’t quite as big. Plus the historic criticisms of his style of the way his teams play wouldn’t address the issues we have in the side.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Valencia, Arsenal and PSG don’t see him in that grate a light, compared to the other clubs he’s managed.

There are without a doubt managers who could come in and deliver better results short-term.
Set us up with a compact low block with De Ligt and Maguire at CB and Casemiro and Ugarte in front; hit two of Hojlund, Garnacho and Rashford over the top…
Depends what you mean by “improve things drastically”.
If “improve things drastically” means a leaner, fitter, sharper, smarter, more resilient, better pressing, better in the defensive transition, more technically proficient and accomplished United side, given what we’ve been working with (and still are), there’s no manager who can quick fix that.

Yep; I keep saying that he’s already an interim manager as far as INEOS are concerned.
If they already have an interim manager in place who is buying into what they’re wanting to achieve longer term and is willing and able to start making the changes they want to see in terms of football strategy, they’ll stick with him until they no longer can or their permanent replacement has been identified and is ready to come.

Yep agree with that. And they’ll probably review ETH’s position towards the end of the season if things improve dramatically and he’s shown enough for them to stick with him.
I think given the way they look to be try to reshape the squad, they’re going to end up giving managers more time than people would probably like.
We’ll have to have a bit of patience with this squad building, because there’s so much work needed and if we’re recruiting players that we are hoping will grow at the club in time then it’s going to take a while.
My scepticism is whether this is a good transfer strategy for a club like United. But we’ll wait and see.
I suggested Emery when we got rid of OGS.
Wouldn't particularly want him now, nor do I think he would come, given he recently signed a new contract and got all the backroom staff in that he wanted.
If we were to go after a spanish manager in the PL that is perceived to be overachieving then I'd much prefer Iraola from Bournemouth.
