Still don't think he's the top class goalkeeper some suggest he is. Just happy he's not making as many daft mistakes for us as he was.
He's not really the reason for our current situation though. It's his manager who is the big issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was never worried about Onana, and some posters here laughed at me last year when I said that Onana might turn out to be ETH’s best signing. And that for two reasons. Firstly, he was brilliant with Inter. Secondly, the ridiculous goals he conceded in his first months with us, especially in CL, were errors of concentration rather flaws in his style of keeping, and that could be solved, which is the total opposite of DDG, a great keeper who used to concede the same type of goals over the years, low crosses from the wings, due to his inability (or refusal) to leave his goal line. He used to make miraculous saves, but I hardly remember him claiming a ball from a cross or a corner

I'm one of his biggest supporters on this board and even I feel like he has been awful since joining this great club.
His "double save" yesterday was over hyped so much that I actually puked at how often every pundit talked about it.
The double save that consisted of him saving the first attempt and knocking right back into the danger area in typical Onana fashion, and then saving another header that went directly down his throat, while doing a flying tsunami Hollywood save.
Once again, I am one of Onana's biggest supporters so I feel like my opinion has a lot of weight.

Ok fine. To be fair to Onana he has been better this season and is one of the last players to complain about at the moment but as Stringer says, jury's still out.
There are some goals we concede where do I think I could do better, but at the same time, the build up to the goals is so catastrophic (from us defensively) that Onana can get a slight pass on those.
^^^
I meant "where I think HE could do better" not I
Don't think he's anything like as good as DDG was for that 4-5 year period for us. That's the level we need him to get to.
But as far as issues we need to fix he's way way down the list.

And on last night there was something really evident that has been getting worse with our play and Rashers was the biggest culprit of it.
Showing for the ball and passing it straight back to whom he received it from when he had ample time to turn with the ball and pass it forward to the other attackers who were making runs.
I lost count of the amount of times Garnaches was missed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure if anyone else thought the same but I thought Rashford also popped up in some unusual positions too. At times I felt he was playing in midfield to try and spread passes. He's a good passer at times but I want him isolating the defender as much as possible not deep!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think Rashford is a “good passer”. A good crosser, yes, but a terrible passer. And the reason, in my view, is that passing the ball to someone else is the last thing he considers when he receives the ball. That is why he stops moving completely before passing the ball.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he certainly has it in his locker. A cross to a teammate is a pass I'd say!

With DDG even at his best, there was a trade-off between his incredible shot-stopping and the fact that he was passive defending corners, very reluctant to sweep, and - at a time when these things were becoming important to being able to modernise tactically - well below average receiving the ball to feet and passing long or short. In my view, a goalkeeper who is good at those other things and merely average as a shot stopper is a net upgrade on DDG *in his peak years*. Onana looks like he might be at least above average as a shot stopper, as well as good at the other things, including elite at receiving and distributing the ball. Unless the lapses prove to be a recurrent thing over a long period of time, he's an upgrade, in my view.
Ive never hated him. Hes an ok keeper... good with the ball at his feet.... had no more crap games than anybody else in that team... saved us more times than he's let is down. Hes also smart and articulate and probably has a good presence in the dressing room.
Hes the least of our problems atm.

I think Onana has done very well this season.
Onana is a maverick, like many goalkeepers, though some lean into it more than others. He’s definitely unconventional, which is a sharp contrast from what we’ve seen over the years with legends like Schmeichel, Van der Sar, and De Gea, plus a few less memorable names. We got used to steady saves with the odd mistake here and there. Onana came in with a big reputation as one of the best passing keepers around, crafted at Ajax and honed at Inter Milan. But that reputation hasn’t really translated well at United, where some costly blunders have added to the team’s inconsistency. This has led some regular match goers to start calling for his replacement. While he’s been unpredictable, his form this season has shown some redemption, putting him on track for a good run, hopefully aligned with an improvement in Utd's form and progression up the league table.

The OP has a very lose perception, definition, interpretation etc., of the word/concept "everyone".
Most sensible people - you know, those that don't, and didn't, tag along with the idea that the clown that preceded him was good enough for an ambitious club - would have waited to see how he (Onana) coped with the rigours of the EPL BEFORE they decided to hate, love or become emotionally attached in any other way ...
But then the world is populated by a significant proportion of reactionary, gullible twerps.
