too give Rodri credit. it wuz him that wun the Euros finale 4 Spane

It wasn't so much about individual performance from Rodri in the final. It was more about his impact on the team. It is a team game after all. There are no individual awards in football.

The best team players go unnoticed as they make things tick along so smoothly that you don't even notice that they are there.

Another key point as to why Rodri deserves it is how poorly his team performs when he isn't playing. That's more noticeable than when he is because the performance of the team and their success drops dramatically.

Alas, just highlights how spoilt we have been for the last 15 odd years. Now back to bog standard players winning awards.

This is so refreshing that Messi or Ronaldo didn't win what they didn't deserve, like last season. Rodri is a very worthy winner and his credentials bear it out
Madrid throwing their toys out of the pram is icing on the cake.

City might have singlehandedly destroyed the essence of football but Rodri earned it on the pitch.

Deserving winner, IMO, and nice to see the decisionmakers remembering that there’s more than one position on the football pitch.

Deserved winner.

Haven’t paid much attention to it, but did Vinicius Junior not attend because he’d been given the heads up that he hadn’t won?

The whole Real contingent didn’t attend (despite having two winners in their midst).

Attempt to try to build some kind of us vs them narrative for the dressing room? Simple deflection away from getting pummelled at home by Barca? Who knows.

Urgh. It’s all a bit childish isn’t it.

A bit like refereeing decisions. “I don’t agree with the decision so the whole system is corrupt”.

It has certainly made them look absolutely pathetic.

Fack the Ballon D'or

posted on 29/10/24

Didn't it used to happen frequently, if a player hadn't won and was finishing 2nd, they wouldn't turn up? I'm sure Ronaldo did it quite a few times.

i mean, hes more than worthy, first winner in the prem since 2006 ronaldo? which just shows how facking absurd the reward is and therefore worthless. Most years its a joke as it was when Haaland didnt win it.

Means fack all to me, never has really. Disappointed Trents even interested in it.

Cracks me up Real crying though after being one of the main teams favoured for it every year.

Name the PL players that should have won it most years from 2008 (Ronaldo) onwards.

It wasn't just Vini not attending though, it was the entire Real Madrid delegation of about 50 people.

Whatever the reason, it's pretty sad that the club wasn't there to honour the first time ever a Madrid-born player wins the award.

Rodri is twisting it in, I think.
