Mad how the Boomer generation had life so easy but seem intent on pretending it was a difficult time and making life worse for those coming after them as a result.
I don't have or want kids but I can't imagine actively voting to make their futures harder. It's such unhinged behaviour.

The only problem is every time I see Harris she looks and sounds fake. Much like Kier Starmer these days.
And I'm someone who's left of centre.
Don't get me wrong no fookin way I want Trump to get back in, but I just don't think Harris is a genuine person. I'd like any leader to believe in the values they promote. She just doesn't come across like she does at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personalities in politics definitely make things more interesting, but they also bring a circus that a country could honestly do without (Boris, anyone?)
As for Starmer and Labour, are they disingenuous? Quite possibly. He’s certainly the king of U-turns, and breaking so many manifesto promises already doesn’t exactly paint him as being honest, it makes it far more challenging for them to win a second term. Only Tory incompetence has won Labour office and could be further reason Labour prevail during the next term irrespective of promises they break and continue to break.
Whether Harris is fake or not doesn’t bother me, there’s a bigger issue at stake. I’m willing to overlook her flaws if it means she can beat Trump to office.

Plus the world is overpopulated as it is. If I ever got to a stable place where I felt like I could offer the right support system to kids in need I might look to foster or something but for now I just have no interest.
I also feel pretty bleak about the future and life becoming much more difficult for like 95% of people so I dunno if I'd wanna subject a small version of me to that.

Isn't it quite a skill to be able to project being natural when you're being watched by the whole world? Sometimes that's only achieved by being a consumate actor. Personally, I think Harris seems pretty comfortable in her own skin, and manages to be more warm and spontaneous than the average politician. She has also had an incredibly challenging task of building a campaign, honing her stump speeches etc in a very short time, when most candidates get months working on their message before the nation's attention switches to the election. I think Harris is a much more talented communicator than Statmer, for instance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not so much about being comfortable, it's about clearly showing what you believe in. And often the hesitancy or wishy washy stuff Harris comes out with, or the rabbit in headlights expressions of Starmer, demonstrate to me they don't believe in what they're saying. Compare that to Bill Clinton (or Hilary Clinton) or Obama, or Bernie Sanders.
I do want Harris to win, but it's more to stave off the lunacy of Trump. I'm not sure she's going to effect any real change for America or the wider world though.

Definitely agree on the last part.
Just to be clear I'm not interested in personality. I saw through the likes of Bojo decades ago. Is the term "comviction politician"? I think that's the term, but I want someone who when I listen to them, I can say yeh he/she believes in certain values and knows enough about them that they can spell out x, y, z of exactly how they're going to achieve them. Bojo wasn't that, he's a scratch the surface, moron. Harris isn't a fraud but she's not that conviction polition either.
Just looked it up. Conviction politician is what I want but neither Harris nor Starmer are it.
Surely conviction politics is sometimes counter-intuitive though if people make mistakes but are too stubborn to admit something isn't working? Surely in those instances it's better to hold your hands up and admit you made a mistake? Unfortunately that seems to be viewed as weakness, when that's not necessarily the case.

https://x.com/ianbremmer/status/1853551571377738072?s=46&t=bPTrpdgNggCdz9igvhmVyw
Look how shorter the list gets for Harris once you get towards the former communist countries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you take any individual country from that list and blast their people with propaganda and misinformation specific to that country, the data would probably look a lot different.
We've just come out of 14 years of Tory clownship, plus Brexit... I don't trust our public any more than I would the people of the states. Just as many imbeciles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's see where we are in 12 months before praising Labour. Working for an SME (and consulting with many) they've stung us pretty badly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't have any problem with people voting tory... But it was a clown show for at least 8 years of those 14. Nothing to do with Labour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I cant disagree there. What it's done though is move Tories further to the right as Starmer appears to be shifting more to the left than anticipated.
Which means we'll likely be in a similar position to the States come the next election.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s certainly a take, and a pretty bad interpretation of what the left and right represents

Yeah I've heard it's like nothing else and I'm sure I'd never regret it, but I just don't think I'll ever intentionally put myself in that situation.
I'm from a small town where people don't tend to do much except have kids in their early to mid 20s and whenever I go back for weddings or whatever it's really interesting seeing peoples insights on them after they've had a few drinks Some wouldn't change it, some would have done it later, some think their kid is total knoooob but still love them, some just tell you to absolutely don't do it.

Good man you’re welcome.
Tongue in cheek or overly dramatic, RR?
Nah, it's same old same old.
It’s a whitewash victory for Trump. I guess it is what it is. The Dems only have themselves to blame.
Harris has gone off in a huff.
No speech at Harvard.
All Kamala needed to do to win this election by a landslide was say they’d stop allowing men into women’s spaces, including biological men competing in women’s sports.
The Democrats fumbled that one. Abortion rights wasn’t the ticket they thought it was.
I blame Starmer. Americans saw him locking people up for social media posts and didn’t fancy it.

Not a dig but why don’t you want kids just out curiosity
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Plenty of reasons, I like moving around, I like spending money on myself, I like being able to do what I want when I want, I find most kids annoying so having to be around them more often would be a headache, I see loads of shiiiiit parents around too and dealing with them would also be a headache.
Plus the world is overpopulated as it is. If I ever got to a stable place where I felt like I could offer the right support system to kids in need I might look to foster or something but for now I just have no interest.

Fair play. Funny you mention fostering, me and my wife have been fostering for the last 6 years. We’re on on our second child as of feb 14th this year and he’s doing great. He’s neurodiverse but we have support via social services and other partners and he’s doing great at school.
I know we ain’t pals but if you want any info re fostering I’m happy to share.

Fair play mate, a very selfless and admirable thing to do and I respect you for it
I'm still a long way off that but if it ever comes to it I'll bear that in mind, thank you.

T-BAD I agree with you about not standing kids, for years I never thought I’d have one because they got on my nerves but when my daughter was born it changed me.
I get your reason for not having any though, this planet is an absolute shiiitshow especially with climate change accelerating and I completely understand why no one would want to bring in a new life to it.

Mad how the Boomer generation had life so easy but seem intent on pretending it was a difficult time and making life worse for those coming after them as a result.
I don't have or want kids but I can't imagine actively voting to make their futures harder. It's such unhinged behaviour.

It’s a whitewash victory for Trump. I guess it is what it is. The Dems only have themselves to blame.
