I think it's quite possible there are players who:
1. we'd written off but thrive because Amorim's system suits them.
2. are a more awkward fit in 3-4-3 than ETH's 4-2-3-1.
3. change position altogether.

I guess we'll have to make do with wing backs who aren't really wing backs until we are able to go into the transfer market. Unless Harry Amass is ready to be fast-tracked or Amorim realises that (e.g.) Bruno has been a misprofiled wing back all this time.

Amad took his goals well last night and was our best player no question.
Can't say I recall a single chance he made for Hojlund/Garnacho/Bruno though. If I'm not remembering one then I hold my hands up.
Hojlund once again cut a frustrated figure and got very little service and if you watch him closely he does get into the box and he does make runs.
Once again I feel fans are getting carried away. Amad deserves a run in the team for sure but we are still a very long way off him being the long term answer.
I think he could definitely be a good squad player for us long term but if we want to start competing with City and Liverpool again then I just don't think he will be good enough. The fact he's good enough right now to start is fine as I said but it's mostly irrelevant because we are a very average team. I think Amad would have struggled to even get on the bench in great Utd sides gone by is what I'm basically saying and that's what we need to get back to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's saying he's the long term answer?
He's better than Rashford & Garnacho on the right though so should at least be given the season to see if he is the long term answer.
I like Garnacho, he clearly he ability & desire but I've no idea how he's essentially become our undisputed 1st choice winger.
Other than against Brentford he's been pretty poor in every PL game he's started in.

I hope Amad has a bit of a McTominay Miracle and grows a bit. Seeing him after the match mingling with the other players - he looked like a little kid. But that second goal showed that for his size he can take a little roughhousing and prevail.

The difference between the two though is that Gyokeres has been doing it in Europe and at International level for a couple of years also.
Toney merely had a decent PL record for a couple of seasons.
A bit like Toney, penalties are seriously inflating Gyokeres stats too though. Amazingly he has already scored 9 pens this season.

As long as he's not easily knocked off the ball, I don't see his height as a significant disadvantage. In fact, his balance / ability to change direction quickly are great assets, which have a lot to do with his low centre of gravity.
According to Google, he's 1.73m, which is 2cm shorter than Salah and 3cm taller than Messi. I don't remember anyone looking at them and saying "he'd be some player if he was 6 inches taller"
