He’ll get it after Amorim fails. Him or sir Gareth

I think Amorim would want his own assistant anyway but I think it's unfair to say Van Nistelrooy should be ruled out for being ambitious. He knows he's not in line to get a top job in the short term but nothing wrong with having the ambition and stating this should not go against him but be a positive. If anybody wants to show their ambition and want to get to the top then they know they have to work for it. You want somebody who is going to work for it, no matter their role.

For what it's worth it think Amorim is an excellent choice but only if he's given time. It's gonna take time to get the team playing how he wants and he's gonna basically need to sell and buy a whole new team to do it. You may think this is crazy right now but that's basically what Klopp did. If you look at the net spend it was ridiculous that he actually did this and got the trophies to show for it, especially when up against prime City.

A little foolish for him to say that.

Changes nothing.
He actually specifically stated he is in the frame of mind to be assistant for two years.
Do you want to manage united one day? What is he to say no? A man professing to love the club and wanting to take us back to the top. The same man has ambitions of becoming a top coach. It is a stupid question.
" Argh no, I do not want to manage this club one day."

Seems weird that he'd come in as an assistant knowing he'd likely be gone in a few months anyway unless he got the big job?
posted 2 weeks, 2 days ago
I bet he regrets not starting managerial work earlier on. He's almost 50 and barely managed anyone.

Amorim has already said he wants to bring five members of his staff with him, including his two assistants, Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido, who have been with him his entire managerial career.
The only question is whether we can get work permits for them all.

We shouldn’t have Ruud in the Amorim set up for a few reasons - one of which is that whilst there he acts as a potential dagger in the back if Amorim goes through a rough patch. Him being around just muddies the waters from the new start. Not saying Ruud would be some ruthless Varys type but you never really want too many people from the last regime in the new one, especially ones popular with players.

Not quite sure Ruud is up to managing a club like Man United, to take us where we need to be yet. Not much evidence of it anyway. Strikes me as a being a there and done it (almost) explayer who still loves the club too much than is good for his career (like Ole really).
However he actually managed to win a game yesterday. If he could do that a few more times he would probably get the job. That's what the new man has to do initially when he gets here.

I don't think this should stop him staying if that's what was going to happen.
I'm sure if Amorim is a strong enough Head Coach to think he can do the job he can also be strong enough to accept that a member of staff would like the top job one day.

If Amorim wants Ruud as his No2 then fine but awkward...if he doesnt which I suspect he wont, the Ruud has to go. I think he knows this though. Apparently Ruud keeps his phone charged and is awaiting a call from Amorim.

He said something we all expect him to say. Whether he stayed or not, the media would make a thing of it as he was caretaker.
None story

If he wants to manage Utd one day, he has to get managerial experience and success elsewhere. Staying as an assistant doesn't really help him.
