£50 is still too much. £30 is about reasonable for access of all EPL matches. IF you want other leagues as well then £50 is fair.
I pay £8 per month here in Doha to watch every EPL/UCL games, and other major leagues.

Difficult to say, is it just football? Or are we talking about all channels? All channels would come down to how much it actually costs per household for the companies to provide this service.
Football is a different world altogether since they pay a ridiculous amount to have the rights to show the games. This amount would have to reduce as they obviously adjust the cost the customer has to pay based on how much they had to fork out for the rights to show the games.

I just don't have time to saturate myself in football like I used to, so paying £50 a month when I only watch UTD games is a lot.
The ideal situation, for me at least, would be all UTD games for about £15 a month.

In PT if you want everything (including all PT league games, European competitions, PL, Bundesliga, La Liga, etc.) then it’s €25p/m for SportTV and €15p/m for Eleven Sports.
I know absolutely nobody who has either subscription; everyone watches in bars, which all have both subscriptions and usually 2+ TVs for the different channels, or uses streams.
We have a strong bar and cafe culture here though, and if you avoid the tourist traps, you’re only paying €1.20 to €1.50 for a bottle of beer, so you can get smashed on a tenner whilst watching a couple of games

We get royally facked in the a hole in this country when it comes to TV.
Sky
BT sports
Amazon
You're looking at about 50-60 a month just for sports and that doesn't even give you all games.
This is exactly why I facked the lot of them off and started using IPTV.

On TV in the UK to see all the games broadcast live you need to subscibe to TNT Sky Sports and Amazon Prime. Even then you only get to see the games they chose to broadcast live. You dont get to chose any game you want to watch live. So even if you pay for all this you wont see every game your team plays in the season. Warching live football in stadiums the costs of Season Tickets vary massively depending which team you follow and all cup games domestic and Europe are extra. Its a massive financial commitment to watch English football in the UK. Which is probably why its the best in the World.

I think the PL should create their own platform like Netflix. All games for £9.95 a month. 100m subscribers would mean £12bn/yr without advertising and sponsorship. Far more than they get from the rights and much fairer for the fans.

I suggested this very thing about 6 months back when we had this discussion. The current options for consuming live football are archaic.
The PL are missing an absolute trick here by not setting up their own platform. Just think how much money they could make, whilst providing a tailored and more affordable TV product for football fans. They would also be much better positioned to put some money back into football at grass roots level and help the future of our game.
It is an absolute nobrainer.

Where you getting 100m subs from though unless the population has magically grown in a day and every single human in the UK signs up for a PL streaming service.
From what I've read the PL get 6.7 billion £ every 4 years.
Let's say there are 10 million subscribers at £9.99 a month. That's 1.2 billion a year (if my calculator done me right), meaning over 4 years they are worse off.
Fyi I have no idea how many people in the UK are subbed to sky sports, prime and tnt and watch sports frequently.
posted 1 week, 2 days ago
According to Google the Pl had an audience of 15 million in 2023/24.
The new calculation puts earning at 7.2 billion over 4 years. So a gain of 500 million compared to contracts with sky etc.
I'm sure there are other bonuses they get from sky, tnt, Amazon yhough.
posted 1 week, 2 days ago
I'd also be OK with pop up ads on a Netflix style subscription service too. Like they seem to have on the streams from South Africa, USA or so I'm told anyway.

Quick maths here, but there are apparently 6m sky sport subscribers. Working on £15 per month subscription, that is 1.08bn per year. Now you would think that providing a tailored and affordable service would mean that the PL would be able able to increase subscriptions up to 9m. Especially if you are taking Amazon, TNT etc out of the equation. That means the PL could increase revenue to 1.62bn per year.
These tailored packages would also be more attractive to foreign based fans
And nothing is stopping the PL from still having a deal in place with Sky. Its just wouldn't be exclusive so not as lucrative.

I'm not an expert but Google says the PL already goes into 643m homes globally. 15% of those is not an unrealistic target (especially as that doesn't include all the people streaming and not wanting to pay the current amount being charged).

I mean yeah, if the PL decided to go global streaming e.g. netflix but that would require a lot of work, taking services from various companies across the planet that already exist e.g. native versions of sky and tnt for example.
I don't know how achievable that would be or if it ever would be.
Doing the UK would be far easier.
