In my opinion, Ruben Amorim will get the players you have playing better, but they are not good enough to win silverware,

So 6 months after winning silverware for the 2nd consecutive season, they are not good enough to win silverware...

1. The Telegraph isn't a especially reliable these days, so take the article with a pinch of salt.
2. It is common sense that any owners will want a manager to get the most of the existing players. This isn't something out of the ordinary. We will assess what he has and then put together a wish list for the summer.
3. In addition to Amad, Garnacho and Manioo, we also have Yoro and Hojlund who are promising. And the squad as a whole isn't as bad as people make out. It has just been poorly coached. I'd reserve judgement until we have seen what a decent coach can get out of the team.
4. These players have already won silverware. Why would they not be good enough to win more under a better manager?
5. We would all be delighted if he gets us back into the CL this season. It will be a tough job though. I don't expect us to be able to challenge for the title for a couple of seasons at best, but momentum can gather quickly under the right manager.
6. Why shouldn't we expect anything exciting? Right now some entertaining football would be exciting. And I think we are at least going to get that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think your squad has plenty of talent but its the mobility, energy and athleticism in so many positions that is where the manager may find it difficult to impose his style.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmm, not sure we are lacking it in so many positions. I think that we probably need another mobile CM and CB. Yoro gives us some mobility in CB and Ugarte has done the same in CM.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

For me all your issues have come from a lack of pace at the back, making a high line very risky. The press is less effective and thus teams have been able to play through you with more ease than you'd like. May be this is coaching, may be its the players.

Many say that the pressing game starts at the top of the pitch, and while this is true, you need a mobile energetic frontline, if the back line is too scared to step up the press fails.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree with the CB position, but you said many positions. Which I don't agree with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would say your CM lacks running power. No real ball carriers who can break lines and drive forward, or make lung busting recovery runs. No one snapping at the heels of opposition. All a bit one paced
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Amorim will want more, for sure; but much of what you’re talking about, particularly the ball carrying and the harrying, will be done by the tens (most likely two from Bruno, Mount and Amad) and the wingbacks.

The Sporting wingbacks get up and down like nobody’s business. The two CMs do get involved up the pitch, but they aren’t relied on to do a lot of ball carrying. Morita and Bragança tend to take it in turns to arrive in the box with late runs for the pull backs. One usually sits a little more, and of course you have the three CBs always covering the counters.

Amorim knows Ugarte very well already, of course. He was Amorim’s most important CM whilst he was still at the club.
