He's right tbf. There's a very good chance December and start of January aren't going to be enjoyable for us given the schedule.
The fact we have our 3 hardest away games all within 20 something days is absurd too. Not to mention that's also a period where we play a lot of games in close proximity anyway.
Think we have to be realistic. We are technically still in a top 4 race right now as the PTS gap isnt too big. I don't believe we still will be in 5 weeks time though. If we are then we truly do have the right guy.
Having been a STH for the best part of 20 years and done my fair share of aways, I can say with some certainty that he won’t need to worry about match going fans, whatever the results over the next few months.
As for the media… well, that’s a different story.
Mentally preparing you all for the punishment you will receive tonight at the Emirates
I have always felt recent Utd managers needed time, and when I say time I dont mean 2-3 months to change things I mean at least 12-18 months to get the changes needed to improve the team to a point where we at least would be challenging more than we have
Getting players he wants, getting rid of players he doesn't want, changing the shape and system of the team and also the attitude and application of the squad, this most likely take the best part of his entire current contract but at the end of it if he has managed that then hopefully he will get another, fans can e fickle and as mentioned the media do stir stuff up so i also like that he's being cautious and reserved with his outlook.
Pretty good move.
Dampening expectations but, at the same time, challenging his players to prove him wrong.

You’ll get top four this season, then do well next year and win a trophy the following season, probably the Fa Cup, then he’ll be sacked by March the following season.

Never expect anything from VAR when you’re against Arsenal, they are allowed to play basketball in the box.
We've played 3 different strikers in 3 games under Amorim. No one is kidding me that Amorim thought for each of those ganes "This is my best tactical option for this game"
The guy hasn't had a pre season with us, so he is using these ganes to learn what he can about the team so that the "Storm" will come.
Of course he wants to win, but he ultimately can't do that without learning about his squad in line with his tactical vision, and these are the only ganes he can do it in.

Well said Winston and dead right.
Whatever happens,United supporters will be right behind ALL the lads in Red, every game, home and away, win draw or lose. The bile and hatred will come form the media and the internet as usual (including sites like this).
If you can't be good, be lucky. We have had some relatively straightforward games under Amorim so far, and we all know that the results don't mask the reality of how we performed in those games.
Yes, there were good moments, but obv a lot to be worked on also. The games coming thick and fast means that Amorim would need to rotate anyway, but he's also trying to find his best players for what he wants, so they kind of go hand in hand.
The media will always be OTT - they are just interested in increasing the hype to increase the fall.
I guess what none of us, including Amorim, is sure of, is how far behind are we. 4th place may indeed be a possibility, as teams are dropping points against each other all the time, and individual quality may mean we can hang on in there for a time. But certainly for this season, it would be more of a bonus rather than an expectation.
And there is a considerable gap between 4th and the 3 of Liverpool, Arsenal and City, which is what we are really aiming to bridge over the next couple of years.
But Amorim is right to keep expectations in check, both as that is the actual reality, but it can have a positive effect if we exceed expectation also.
I agree with most of the comments so far and all this is proving is how incredibly stupid and spineless INEOS were in the summer. This guy should have had been given a summer training camp, tour and £100-150m to spend on players that fit his system.
I know we can't change the past now but this is why I was so vocal about how crap that decision to keep ETH was. It was the most predictable sacking in the history of football.

Controversial opinion but INEOS haven't done anything at all since coming in to show they have any clue how to fix the problems at the club.
RA was a reactive thing it clearly wasn't part of some grand plan they had.
We all know we have no chance. The manager. The players. The fans. Which I actually think gives us our best chance tonight. We have zero expectation so we will likely get a result.
I am not expecting us to get anything tonight, which actually suits us, so I expect that we will get a result.
No chance. So chance.

Reeeealllly doesn't matter as Liverpool doing well means that 5th place will get top 4 this season, so United get CL because of Liverpool. Also with City getting punished, 6th place will end up getting top 4 as well so our league results don't matter much this season. We also have the back up of winning the Europa League. Which we can do easily if we actually try and win it instead of trying to go out like we do every season.

I'm not sure getting 5th will be that easy, or winning the Europa League. I think if we make the knock-out stages, that may suit us in terms of gearing performances in knock-out games, but then it works both ways and a bad performance in a leg could see us out.
We really need to see in the new year where we are in terms of a realistic expectation for the rest of the season
Its going to take a miracle for United to be playing in CL next season. Lets just be realistic.
The immediate fixture list is crazy. The next few games we could quite easily get little out of even if we rolled out the Fergie era. Replacing the manager mid season was a daft thing to do especially after wrongly backing him in the summer with a full preseseaon and further recruiitment. Amorim has already identified a lack of fitness and an inability to perform the basics in technique before he even can get started with these players. So December could be brutal. It might not be. We will know more tonight.
He's basically feeling positive, but is aware that the squad isn't good enough for a PL challenge at the moment so is setting expectations for a run of bad results (which we are all already used to for the last 10 years tbf)
Would losing the next few games actually be a good thing in the long run? Should we hope we lose them for the benefit of the club? Also losing tonight gives Arsenal a chance of catching Liverpool. And losing to City would do the same.
It's obvious we will see some bad results over the coming months and anyone who can't see or accept that maybe needs a reality check.
This club have been a mess for over a decade now, it's clearly not going to be fixed in a few months or even a couple years. It needs major work from top to bottom and that includes giving a highly talented young manager time to implement his ideas and actually get a squad that can execute what he wants.
Tonight we are away to one of the top 3 clubs in the league who have just scored 13 goals in their previous 3 games and in good form. There is a very likely possibility we get convincingly beat, but there is nothing wrong with that because tonights result and performance really won't tell us anything long term.
