if Deki is going to play in midfield I hope it's as the RCM rather than the LCM, angles suit him much better

Rotating back to this. Bergvall, Sarr and Bentancur all look just as comfortable on the left as they do on the right? With Bentancur playing on the left under Conte more iirc?

I think Sarr looked less comfortable on the left, maybe that's just because normally our left cm plays more like a 10 which obviously doesn't suit him

We've not really seen Sarr on the left much under Ange? Not that I can recall. We've barely seen Bergvall at all. Conte used Bentancur in the double pivot right? Not really the same as a LCM in a three.

But yeah sure they could probably all do a job there

Yeh only time I’ve ever seen him properly in a midfield 3 on the left was as a 10 previously so who knows

Yeah mainly double pivot but I don’t think that changes much. Similarly we had a handful of games when we played a midfield 3 under Conte and he excelled

Well if gray and Skipp start as centre backs yeah

But they won’t be against Bayern

Even if Drag and Davies do tbf

Tbf yeah double or triple pivot doesn't really matter but the amount of ground he'd cover and particularly the pace of transition does for Bentancur in Ange's system IMO. I think he'd be better used as competition for Bissouma

I do think he is now the backup 6. However the point is more in the absence of Maddison you’d go Kulu right and Bentancur would be left

Not including Bergvall, midfield combos I think would work:

Madders Bissouma/Bentancur Sarr

Bentancur/Sarr Bissouma Kulu

If Maddison is out surely we just replace Maddison. Moving the midfield around and taking out Sarr to accommodate it makes no sense to me

I think 6 is still an issue but maybe. Its not necessarily the personnel just the role

More recently have noticed they don’t drop between CBs anymore or provide much of a shield

I think we are going to see a great version of Bentancur this season.

But the earlier point which Chris was making, which is why the convo came about. Is that Kulu seems a lot weaker LCM than RCM - who else would sub in for Madders?

I mean, granted, I didn't watch every game last season but it was pretty much all of them except the 12 o clock kickoffs and I haven't watched preseason but when have we seen Kulusevski at LCM? Or RCM for that matter, to decide he's better at one than the other?

I conceded that left wing he looks lost, as he's never really done it. But neither has he been deployed in a midfield 3 AFAIK

He was in the games last year when he played AM and Madders & GLC were out
