Sell Rashford to PSG for €80m. Hand the cash straight back to them for Muani. Log the €80m sale to the books for PSR, spreading the €80m purchase over five years.
PSG basically get to swap Muani for Rashford without spending a penny and to say they made a profit on Muani. Win for them.
We get a proper striker much better suited to Amorim’s system, probably more than £100k per week off the books, plus a pure profit of €80m logged for PSR.
Anyone?

I haven’t watched him for a good while, tbh. Just trying to think of ways to find a solution for Rashy, get some of those wages off the books and sort out our dire PSR situation.

More misses than hits performance-wise, SE85. I’d be the first to celebrate a return to form, but I’d prefer it elsewhere. Utd need to move on from Marcus, and Marcus needs to move on from Utd as part of the cultural reset. I know this is a sore topic for you, since he’s one of your favourite players. Player bias works in mysterious ways, it can lead to either rose tinted views or cynical views of others, when what we really need is a more honest, objective perspective for the greater good of Utd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn't say he's my favourite player but yeah i do rate him more than others do. That's fair.
It's not even that though. It's the blatant hypocrisy you lot show towards the other options which gets me angry rather than the criticism of Rashy. I have been critical of his performances myself. This is where I simply won't agree.
The Mason Mount topic the other day was the perfect example of this. In almost every metric Marcus has performed better for us than Mount but because he runs at the defender on the ball more he's suddenly a better player. He isn't. Mason Mount won't achieve half of what Rashford has done for us.
I agree he needs to leave now as people have just needed somebody to aim their frustration at for so long and he's taken more stick that has been justified at times. He's better off re-starting somewhere else now and I hope he does.
He will get a great ovation if and when he returns to OT one day and rightly so. He's one of our own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did someone say Mount is tree or simply suits Amorim’s system better? Because the latter is a fair statement.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
*Mount is better
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No one claimed Mount is better; he’s simply a player who fits the system. As for SE85, he overindulged as usual with his ranting, and I couldn’t be bothered to address any of his points directly. Marcus’s achievements speak for themselves, they don’t need explaining or acknowledgment right now. However, at 27, he should be at the peak of his powers, not on a steady decline.

Doubt PSG would still want him anyway with the emergence of Barcola.
Serie A could be an option if he wants to take a substantial pay cut. Prem rejects tear it up there.

Arsenal fans always seem to be bealing about needing a striker, but Martinelli has hardly been pulling up trees in recent months. Rashy could help them on that LHS.
Barcola does indeed look *the* shiiiit from what I’ve seen. Does he always play on the left? And do they have a backup plan for the right for when Dembele inevitably snaps something else?

I don't know what the PSR ramifications would be, but Matheus Cunha is going to be my new Mohammad Kudus.
Can play CF and LF (and is playing in the later position for Wolves in a 3-4-3, is fast, powerful, an excellent ball carrier, hard working and has really added end product to his game at PL level in the last 18 months. Also at an age where he'll be entering his prime years in the next season or two.
I don't think Wolves would be keen to lose him in January though given their league position, and we should also be looking to nab Ait-Nouri as well for the LWB role in my view (unless Alfonso Davies is genuinely obtainable).
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Martinelli had that one good season, but hasn’t really kicked on since. And having just watched Sterling do a Sterling, and Arsenal’s penchant for taking high paid, unwanted players off rivals, it wouldn’t surprise me if Rashford ended up at the Emirates.
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
I quite like the look of Muani (have consistently lower standards than Dazza). A swap for Rashford would at least raise the physical profile of our attacking options. As well as technical ability, we need to gradually get more height, strength and speed in the squad.
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
I guess the thing is, with the change in formation, we’ve become a bit overstocked in the attacking numbers now.
If we could get rid of Rashford, Antony and Mount and bring in one top attacker, we’d still have six attackers for those three forward positions.
Need to be clever with our recruitment as we really need to address the defence, midfield and wing backs as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Antony looks like his best utility will be at RWB and not one of the attacking roles, and Mount pretty much rules himself out by virtue of not being able to stay fit enough to be of much use.
If Rashford goes, realistically based on fitness and position changes, we only have Garnacho, Rasmus, Zirkzee, Amad and Bruno for the 3 forward positions, and Amorim seems more keen on Bruno being in the midfield two than the forward three (which I suggested a couple of times prior to his arrival that he might).
Other than Bruno, they're all youngsters. We definitely need someone a bit more 'oven ready' and closer to their prime years, and ideally one who can play both CF and one of the other positions (did I mention Matheus Cunha yet?).
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
That’s five players for three positions, and with another signing is six, which would be enough depth. I suspect Bruno’s playing in cm because our options aren’t very good. If we sign a cm we can get Bruno closer to goal where he’s at his best, using him as a cm in this system is a waste.
What this ‘top player’ looks like depends on how much trust Amorim has in the other forwards. Could be a striker or could be on of the forwards behind the striker.
I think we could end up struggling to get anyone in that area, however, given our financial situation and the lack of numbers in other areas of the pitch.
Especially as we will struggle to get anything for Antony and Mount.
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
We’ll also need to consider what players from the academy can be brought into the squad as well.

It’s quality in the attacking numbers though, isn’t it?
Hojlund can be developed, and we have to expect given his age that he’ll improve. Amad looks a great fit for Amorimball. Beyond that?
Bruno is 30 and might well drop into midfield now. The rest might represent a mishmash of talent-light, a permacrock and misfits for the system.
CB we need numbers for, but already have the bones of a decent unit. Obviously, we’re going to need strengthening with numbers and talent on both flanks. Midfield under Amorim requires more than anything else graft, legs and tidiness. (And anyone who doesn’t believe that to be the case should take a good look at the likes of Morita and Bragança.) Ugarte and Bruno can work well, IMO. We have Mainoo to develop and then probably need a backup for Ugarte.
But the area that is going to need the biggest injection of both talent and suitability for me beyond the wingbacks is the front three. A quality (proper, out and out) CF to challenge Hojlund, a quality right sided ten to share responsibility with Amad, and a top drawer left sided ten ready to start every week. (Pote )
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
The more I think about it, the more I’d love to see Quenda and Amad double-teaming on that RHS. No idea if we’ll get him, but the story continues to rumble on in the press here.
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
I appreciate that, rosso. But we are still dictated by squad registration, if we can’t sell all the players we need to get rid of (I couldn’t give a fack if we sold all of our attackers) then it impacts what we can realistically bring in.
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
I’d rather sell Hojlund, keep Zirkzee, and sign a good striker.

Sadly it seems the only quality you need to play instead of Mount is the ability to stay fit.
I'd like to see Mainoo further forward as think he could do well there. It'd also be great to see him cement that midfield place down too if not further forward. Hopefully this little break from playing every game he's having will help long term. He's still only young so bit unfair to depend on him I think.

I mean, we have to have skilful players, of course.
But Amorim just isn’t going to accept skilful players who aren’t also quick, agile, relentless scurriers. In the back three, maybe. But the seven in front of them are going to need to demonstrate somewhere between Ugarte and Mount levels of physical output.
Gyokeres, Trincão, Pote, Catamo, Bragança, Harder, Nuno… look at any given one of Sporting’s midfielders or attackers. They work their absolute bollox off all game, every week. Playing Sporting is like fighting a tornado.
I don’t think he’ll accept anything less - and he shouldn’t expect anything less - from players paid ten times as much.

We’ll also need to consider what players from the academy can be brought into the squad as well.

I wouldn’t be opposed to us picking up Cunha and Ait-Nouri when Wolves are finally relegated.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s quality in the attacking numbers though, isn’t it?
(Pote )

The more I think about it, the more I’d love to see Quenda and Amad double-teaming on that RHS. No idea if we’ll get him, but the story continues to rumble on in the press here.

I appreciate that, rosso. But we are still dictated by squad registration, if we can’t sell all the players we need to get rid of (I couldn’t give a fack if we sold all of our attackers) then it impacts what we can realistically bring in.

I’d rather sell Hojlund, keep Zirkzee, and sign a good striker.

I wouldn't be against Mainoo in the two behind the stiker and us getting a more aggressive midfielder alongside Ugarte. Think Mainoo's quick feet and dribbling could work well closer to goal. Would he work hard enough would be my reservation.

Any chance of seeing Toby Collyer alongside Ugarte at some point?

It’ll be a shame if Mainoo falls out of favour because Amorim has a preference for shiiiiiite like Mason Mount.

Tbf I meant shiiiiiiite that play like him, as he’s obviously a crock.
I think we’ve been relying too much on him and he’s really not at the required level for us to be doing that. But I just hope his profile as a player doesn’t mean he’ll fall out of favour at the club.

Bring back the lazy No 10s!
There should always be room in a team for a skilful player or two.
