Love this place. The moment a player loses form: " I told you he was no good" 🤣

He’s an average PL defender and that’s about it.

Quite good at a lot of things, excels at nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's a very good ball carrier (if not exceptional), and a very good tackler and aggressive interceptor of the ball.

But his passing is up there with the best CBs in Europe. 85th percentile plus in passes, pass completion, progressive passes, passes into the final third, passes into the box and through balls (97th percentile). That's where his value lies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He’s okay on the ball
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He'ss ridiculously good on the ball - more like a CM than a CB and his passing is fantastic. You either don't actually watch him, or you don't understand what you're watching. Which is it?

Defensively he's not in great form at the moment - prone to brain farts and getting done by overcommitting at times - but no one who is serious can question his ability with the ball.

He is good enough to play for United. For a top 4 team, I dont think so.

We’re a top four team trapped in the body of a top thirteen team.

Just need to cut out the bollox and we’ll be singing the lead lines again.

ETH said he wanted to make us the best transition team in the world and people thought he was talking about phases of play

Sometimes let's be sensible in our thinking.

Prior to his injury, the lad did not put a foot wrong. Since his return, he has struggled no doubt. Before we think about shifting him, we should be thinking about shifting clowns like Luke Shaw. Luke Shaw is now up there with Jones- he has milked this club dry.

Perhaps all the top clubs will be putting in bids for him this coming summer, because his ability is so ridiculously good and fantastic.

I'm not concerned with Martinez, he hasn't had a good season this far, but other than that he's generally been a solid performer for us.

It isn't just his on field performances, but his leadership, commitment, aggression and I'm sure he's great behind the scenes too.

A lot of the errors he's making easily fixed imo and I feel he suits Amorims style of football pretty well. If he's still in this vein of form in 12 months time, we can revisit.

Yeh, probably a fair assessment.

I like the look of Yoro so far on the other side. Which probably means Maz pushing out to the right at some point in the near future.

Yeh, but he was talking about two facets of his game. Not his overall ability. Which is what all the best clubs in the world would consider before buying him, so....

I would be interested to see what he could do in the DM position. I think I read that he had played there a handful of times for Ajax?

posted 1 week, 6 days ago

Robbing, it's not difficult to work out. He doesn't play in central midfield because he's not a natural midfielder. That said, given his attributes, maybe he could do a job there in an emergency. As for why previous managers haven't tried him in that position, it's likely because the need never arose. While his abilities on the ball are impressive, his defensive game is currently below par. This might be due to form, wear and tear affecting his movement, or even a mental block from prior injuries, we simply don’t know. His performance might elevate back to what we’re accustomed to once the team transitions to winning consistently. My take on him long term is RA will find a better option to strike a good balance between passing and solid and reliable defensive ability.

posted 1 week, 6 days ago

Never been the same since the injury. He's transforming from the new Vidic to a new Rojo. I don't understand how a broken foot injury can ruin a player this way. I truly hope he gets back to form. My back 3 would be De Ligt, Mazrouri and Maguire currently.

Fair.

He’s had some stinkers against us as well which probably doesn’t help in my appraisal, and if I had to take a defender from Utd, it’d be De Ligt but he’s the last of Utds problems really.

He’s in final year next season and Utd should probably get that sorted soon.

I used those words specifically with regards to his passing and his technical ability/skill on the ball - not his overall game or all of his attributes as a player or defender. Indeed, I even mentioned his poor form and frailties.

I have said in the past that I’d like to see him in midfield and for us to sign a left-footed CB who possesses superior physical and athletic attributes.

Lissy is brilliant on the ball but a crap defender. It’s a common theme with Argy cbs.

posted 1 week, 6 days ago

Not sure if it's already been mentioned already (if not then perhaps some short memories) but in his first season we had an amazing run following the world cup, in 4 competitions and playing the most games of any club in Europe. And there's no doubt Lisandro played a massive part in that.

It's no coincidence that his injury in the Spring caused a nose dive in our performances and results. We literally got knocked out the Europy straight after and having positioned ourselves favourably for top 4 up until then we were all over the place defensively afterwards and squeaked over the finishing line. I'll add I believe we would've made the Europy final had he not been injured.

He hasn't hit the same standard since his return. Not sure how much is down to the injury itself or being out for so long, and how much is down to change of manager as he had a close affinity to Ten Hag. I've a feeling he won't be Amorim's long term plans but right now there are other defenders who will leave before him.
