He's in the CB range of the likes of Lovren for me.
A good defender and even a great one on his day, but he also makes mistakes and he's not good enough or consistent enough to be playing 50 games a season if you want to get back to the top.
3rd/4th choice CB he'll be fine though.

If we get to the point where players like Martinez are squad players/in regular rotation then we'll be doing alright!

Nope.
Never was and never looked like he was going to be up to the job.
May develop into a journeyman epl player, but he's probably not really interested in doing the work necessary to even reach that level.
United's defensive personnel decisions over the past decade have been largely garbage.
Only Maguire, Shaw, AWB and Darmian (in recent years) have had the slightest clue about how to defend at this level and in this league.
The rot appears to have set in when SAF decided to leave the club with a parting joke to better enhance his legacy of success - by suggesting the way forward after he left was with twin fullbacks that hadn't a defensive braincell between them, and an utter clown for a keeper.
The club's still trying to recover ...

As bad as Lis was I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game where both keepers were so bad 😂

Don’t worry, would have been far worse had onana played

I actually said he was Marcus Rojo 2 before you Robb and I’m not even winding you up on that
He’s very good on the ball but defensively he’s far from top class.
I think ruthless Ruben will move him on eventually.

Have we tried him as a DM? I’m sure he played there for Ajax under ETH. Might be a better fit for him in premier league

Last season he was one of the top 5 CBs in the world according to Pep.

Pep also said Phil Foden was more talented than Messi

Still, he recognised his ability on the ball.
This season him and Maguire seem to have swapped powers.

That’s been one of the great happenings - seeing Maguire be half decent. He was always a ‘good’ CB but this season he’s the one CB I feel happiest seeing on the team sheet. Will be revert back to Bambi on ice again? Maybe but for now he’s in the good books.

I think the back 3 suits him. Also I think Ruben's rotation is going to benefit him as he's become more injury prone lately.

Never seen a player get away with cards as much as he does. Its asif refs see the size of him and take pity, need to realise hes called pat butcher of amsterdam for a reason ffs.

If Amorim can make Maguire look like a top top CB, I imagine Lisandro will be fine under him.
If not Ruben will bin him off, he’s a ruthless winner.
Fact.

All CBs will look better or worse depending on the extent to which a system or partnership suits their strengths or exposes their weaknesses. Lisandro is good at aggressively stepping in to proactively win duels. He's always been high class at receiving and keeping the ball in tight spaces and at passing through the lines. He's always been vulnerable at one on ones when isolated against a fast attacker, and it's not ideal that the LCB has a lot of space to defend. Could be that in time we upgrade with a player with greater physical suitability, but it's likely this will involve a trade-off whereby we lose some quality on the ball in the process. I can't think of a CB in the world who combines Martinez's ability with elite athleticism.

Another Yoro might fit the profile we need, but could Yoro execute or even see that pass for Amad against City? Doubtful. As you rightly point out, it’s the trade off between Licha' s lack of physicality and his quality on the ball, something we’ll have to live with until this issue is resolved, likely, and unfortunately, through a transfer away from Utd.
