FYI I'm not an 'Ange supporter' any more than a regular fan should be. I want him to succeed while he's our manager, just like I wanted Kane to score tons of goals for us but don't give a chit soon as they're gone.
But I am tired of people lazily parroting talking points directly off Sky Sports or kneejerking after a bad result (Dragusin better than Romero, anyone?) instead of having grown up discussions around the football we're watching, what could be improved etc. This is all just childish nonsense. Really. Have you just started watching football that you don't see these questions put to managers all the time when they have obvious injury issues and them having to pretend it doesn't affect things cos idiots will say they're blaming everything in injuries. Sorry, "focusing on the injuries as if that is the only reason why we are where we are"

Ange is the one bringing up the injuries what you on about 😂.
The most grown up conversations I’ve seen about our current team are from the fans questioning ange and explaining why. Giving their rationale. On the other hands you have fans being childish and giving one sentence snarky comments asking about quotes. Or looking at things binary like “any team would struggle with 10 injuries, it’s not ange fault”. Now that’s parroting lazy sky sports points
Which one are you?

He was asked a question about the injuries, no? Again, if you could actually point to what he said that's got you wound up like I asked for in the first place we could have a sensible conversation. Not sure why this is so difficult

That's the opposite of what binary means. That's using context to explain what you're seeing. You're not very good at this

I'm not a SSN guy and here in Canada I can't watch a lot of the content anyway, so this is what I got from the BBC (where he seemed to get annoyed with all the questions about the impact of injuries)
“I’m just going to stop answering these questions,” Postecoglou said to BBC Sport. “If people can’t see the obvious I‘m not going to point it out.
“Make of it what you want, yes we’re conceding goals. If you want to discount the fact we’re missing a goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a left-back and that hasn’t coincided with what we’re doing… I don’t know what to say anymore. I think people make up their mind in their own way. They either think what I’m doing is good or bad, and that’s fine.
“It’s fairly significant, if you took out Liverpool’s goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a left-back - or any team other than Liverpool, they’d find it tough going as well.”

Tough one init. I don't disagree, it's hard on the players. Though the opposite - sitting deep, not committing to the press - would also be tough in that it puts a lot of pressure on defenders all the time.
Of course it's not one or the other, but I come back to my original comment. How much better can a central defence of Dragusin and Gray realistically do against Liverpool? And I know, people are talking about the whole season but let's be honest, this is a direct reaction to the Liverpool game. Would it have been better to sit on our 18 yard line and lose 0-3? The argument becomes churlish
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Sorry, it just seems churlish. Especially as a Spurs fan. We've seen what the atmosphere gets like when we showed no ambition to get at teams under Conte.. with a relatively unknown Australian that a chunk of our fans seemed to hate right out the box, you'd see at lot worse. And they're not being honest if they deny it
posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago
I feel like it's a reaction to a culmination of results and not just this one, but this one is kinda the spark to start the fire.
In terms of putting pressure on the defence, both the Conte/Mou approach and the Ange way put loads of stress on it but to different extremes.
I guess the frustrating thing with Ange is that he's got you doing attacking patterns of play that not many managers could manage, but on the flip side he's negelecting the defence in a way that your Allarydyce, Warnock, Mason could fix. Yes it's not as simple as getting an attacking coach and a defensive coach, but there's not really any acknowledgment of trying something different to fix the problem.

I'm curious if there's good examples of top managers doing that though? In one off games, sure. SAF being the master of course. But generally, over seasons or whatever. Managers have their identity and preferred style of play and generally clubs hire those that fit with what the fans want. As you say, for every Ange there an Allardyce. And I think that's partly my frustration with the current narrative, in that historically that's seen as a positive.
I don't think Ange is necessarily wrong in sticking to what he knows (in that going away from it could well be as bad if not worse) but he's become outdated just as he's peaked. Managers capable of switching their approach game to game or at least not being so dogmatic (Slot, Iraola) could be overtaking the old guard of your Peps and his disciples. I guess we'll see if it's just a trend but certainly looks like it's going that way

Very late on the scene but its been an interesting read. BBB is typical of many fans who have narratives/preconceptions/biases which they just cannot think beyond, and twist almost every situation to fit the narrative/support the entrenched conclusion.
As for Ange's ability, most sensible fans will admit the jury is still out, but right now it is very hard to judge the effectiveness of Ange ball. First of all, even without injuries the squad is still a work in progress. Our aim has to be higher than we are now but 7th - 4th is about realistic given where we are in a widespread rebuild process.
But when you factor injuries in too, while our form was never "title form" this season, before the last few weeks and piling up of injuries, we have been within touching distance of the top 3, scoring for fun and the 3rd - 5th best defensive record. Not the disaster some painted it as, and not the mess it is now which has been hit hard by injuries.
We need a new CB in immediately. I don't care if VDV and Cuti come back tomorrow, we need that back up if we are to get something from this season. This then gives Ange another CM option in Gray.
A striker, anyone who knows how to run and score and stay fit would also be ideal, on loan or a long term Richi replacement, because we are lacking back up in attack and Solanke and Son will suffer if there is nothing behind them.
Get these in, get a few players back and Ange can be judged over the rest of the season. He cannot expect an injury free squad at all times so he has to prove he can cope with adversity, it's just that the adversity is too great and the squad is not strong enough to be fair in judging him. IMO

Since then though, we’ve had 2 more bad performances where ange has again referred to injuries. He is hoodwinking fans to think our situation is because of our injuries. Hes giving the “Poor me”
End of the day, things were slightly better before the injuries this season, but last season from march we were bad without injuries. And he is partially responsible for the injuries.

Furry muff. I've not watched the post match pressers cos it's just depressing. Though I would guess they're constantly asking him about it rather than him being asked about the game and going 'YEAH BUT WE'VE GOT INJURIES'.
Honestly at this point I think it's weird to be so obsessed by what he's saying. It's not like it's wrong or controversial. We just need to start winning then no one is going to care what he says
posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Yeah they are asking him now, but partially cos he had kept mentioning it before. Now obviously its a story and reason for why we’re in the mud.
I agree that if we start winning, people will stop complaining about a lot of things, levy included. Maybe thats the problem - as a fanbase we need to be consistent
posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Yeah. I think we need to stand behind the guy who quit the THST with that statement. It's a weird vibe though cos it's not like we're in financial trouble or getting relegated or anything. It's tough to get people angry and motivated to protest enough to get Levy out cos they're disappointed. It just causes apathy mostly. Which is a shame

IMO

Mate, bit rich to mention biases when you seem to be heavily biased towards levy no?
What have i said thats biased? Everything I’ve said has logic behind it and doesn’t just dismiss things or excuse things on ange just because we are worried of who the next manager would be.
Meanwhile you’re on the transfer thread excusing levy for our high ticket prices

I guess BBB has gone. I really didn't mean to frustrate you dude, I actually hoped you'd share the quotes you'd read or watched that made you get to this conclusion cos from what I've seen he's not doing anything like what you're describing.

Not frustrated i just couldn’t be bothered to keep going back and forth, especially at that time of night.
