Liverpool (and football) fans are quick to forget how awful Salah was for them in the business end of last season. From about late March onwards he was shockingly bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From March to May he got eleven goals and seven assists. Yeah shockingly bad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think he actually does any research before he posts guff?

In big games against United, Palace, Villa, Everton and West Ham when you needed to win he was awful.

Even Liverpool fans were on his case for it.

United - 2 goals and 2 assists
Palace - didn't play them
Villa - one assist
Everton - didn't play them
West Ham - no goals or assists

So in three games three goals and three assists.

Against United he scored a penalty ffs how petty are you.

He was anonymous against Palace at Anfield

Awful at Goodison when Everton spanked you

He massively let you down when you needed to win games to bag the title

Yes but you said between March and May. Goodinson was in September and Palace was in February. So you're saying he had three bad games between September and May?

Everton beat Liverpool in April 2024… so did Palace.

Ah I was looking at the wrong season. You're talking about the season Salah got injured at AFCON and came back several weeks later on the bench and got injured against Brentford then didn't feature until mid-March.

Since then he got six goals and four assists in fifteen games since his return to the team. It happens after injury but not a bad return in fifteen games.

posted 5 days, 1 hour ago

Still ended the season with 25 goals and 14 assists in 44 games which was by far the least games he has played in a season due to injury. That was him apparently passed it. Then this season happened and apparently he's better than ever. It's almost as if injury has an impact.

posted 5 days, 1 hour ago

Just the 20 goals and 17 assists in 26 games thus far. Don't know how he'll recover from that 'awful' March to May one year.

posted 5 days, 1 hour ago

if he was to somehow keep up this pace it would comfortably be the best PL season ever and that's on top of the rest of his resume

It's a decent debate. It's also interesting as they both play essentially the same position, wing forward on the side that favours cutting in onto their stronger foot, both sides set up with their main attacking threat down their side - yet they both do it very differently at the same time.

Rooney

posted 4 days, 13 hours ago

Far be it from me to agree with Jody Barton, who is a monumental veiled of epic proportions, but I’ve just seen him described as ‘The best, worst player, you’ve ever seen’.

His finishing can be shabby, so can his penalties and his dribbling and also his passing. They can also all be absolutely world class, and he’s an output monster put monster.

Atm, the eye test says Henry, but another couple of years of crazy numbers and it’ll be hard to ignore Salah.

Rooney is a great shout, Shearer gets nowhere near enough props.

Eye test is the last resort to put Salah down. Used to be same comment when he was compared with Hazard but looks how that ended. Salah does need that PL or CL before we start having that Henry conversation and eye test will be right at the bottom.

posted 4 days, 11 hours ago

I reckon I agree Kash, the numbers are becoming hard to ignore.

I also think if you put a list of their ‘great’ goals up, Salah’s would actually be longer.

Both aren’t great in finals fwiw but it’s a Prem debate I guess.

Apart from the start to his Arsenal career I would say Henry sustained a higher level for longer. With Salah there have been a couple of seasons where he's not been at his best. I think this is why what he's doing at the moment needs to happen if he's to overtake Henry. I mean if you imagine Salah continues his phenomenal form, Liverpool win the big prizes and he wins a Ballon, then what that would do for his legacy would make a lot of people consider him the greatest PL player.

posted 4 days, 11 hours ago

I mean Salah has just broken the record for consecutive seasons of over ten goals and assists in the league so not sure how you’ve worked that out tbh Spurtle.

Do you still think Spurs would have won the league last year with Kane?
