Far be it from me to agree with Jody Barton, who is a monumental veiled of epic proportions, but I’ve just seen him described as ‘The best, worst player, you’ve ever seen’.

His finishing can be shabby, so can his penalties and his dribbling and also his passing. They can also all be absolutely world class, and he’s an output monster put monster.

Atm, the eye test says Henry, but another couple of years of crazy numbers and it’ll be hard to ignore Salah.

Rooney is a great shout, Shearer gets nowhere near enough props.

Eye test is the last resort to put Salah down. Used to be same comment when he was compared with Hazard but looks how that ended. Salah does need that PL or CL before we start having that Henry conversation and eye test will be right at the bottom.

For me having another PL or CL medal doesn't add much weight as that's a team achievement. It's how he himself performs on the way to them. Before this season I wouldn't have entertained Salah being a better player than Henry and I'd always had Mane above him when both at the club. He's a great goalscorer but for me wasn't as good as a team player. This season he's turned into a creative force as well, some of the balls he's playing are up there with anyone. He keeps it up then he's definitely in the conversation.

Just for devils advocate reasons, Henry never had to play in the Euros mid season.

I mean Salah has just broken the record for consecutive seasons of over ten goals and assists in the league so not sure how you’ve worked that out tbh Spurtle.

Do you still think Spurs would have won the league last year with Kane?

There have been one or more seasons where he's had quite large lulls and not hit the numbers he maybe should have hit. Remember the one season where his output had completely dropped off around the time after the AFCON?

And no I don't think Kane would have helped us win the league. We were a defensive mess last season, as well as this.

As I've come to believe, the issues are as much with the manager.

Agree with this, but I still want us to win more league and CL titles so that he can largely be the consensus GOAT.

I think asking only Liverpool and Spurs fans who was the best is only gonna give you one answer

I think if you're looking only at Premier League then Salah tops it. The problem is that because Henry also won the World Cup and Euros it adds an edge to his CV, even though it has nothing to do with his PL record.

I also think age plays a part. I was in my 20s when Henry was in his prime and generally speaking most people go for the one whose era is defined by how you felt at the time. Nothing defeats youth. That's why so many old pricccccks voted for Brexit, because they had rose tinted views of what their youth was like without the EU. Turned out to be a total feckin disaster.

So yeah, the answer is Salah by any metric.

I wanted reasoned and unbiased opinions, that's why I tagged the Liverpool board.

I too am of the age to remember Henry in his prime in my early 20's/late teens. As I remember it, Henry was maybe performing at a higher level for longer. Not that Salah's level hasn't been high either but it seems like he's had more dips in form over the course of his time in the PL.

Like I said before, if he's going to replace Henry as the obligatory answer for who was the best PL player ever in most people's minds, he's going to have to carry on this form through to the end of this season and win a title, at the least. If he wins the Ballon as a result, that will be big in people's perceptions of how great he was, looking back.

Salah is consistently brilliant and better than most stats wise.

I did prefer watching Henry though. He had next level flair and finesse.

Bit like when you watch someone like Ronaldinho. Just pure class.
