Zion Suzuki to replace Onana?

GK is hardly a focus area now.
Onana have bad moments, yet he's been one of our best players this season.

He is a proven Champion League finalist, why replace him?

Defensive wise, we've been very shaky at times, especially on set pieces, this is a team problem and something the team as a unit has to adapt/improve, and is not down to individuals.

It's funny, for a club that is apparently limited in who we can go for, we seem to be associated with every Tom, D ick and Harry going.

I felt that given the issues in many other positions, GK may not seem a priority, but honestly, it will depend on how Amorim feels about Onana. I feel Onana has improved this season, but I am still not entirely convinced by him, almost not good enough to be our number 1, but I don't see him staying as a number 2 either.

In an ideal world we would prioritise certain areas over others, but it doesn't always work out that way.

I don't think we will do much business this month, if we do it probably will be at LWB area, but I still feel Amorim is working on improving what he has got, recognises that whole sale changes aren't going to happen in the short-term, and let's really see if we can kick on a bit from Sunday's result.

Suzuki… cost effective, reliable, steady and a great engine too.

Sign him.

As above GK isn't a priority position, however if we can recoup Onanas fee and reinvest in a keeper the manager is happier with, then why not?

I'm sure we can still get £30m for Onana.

He can a cool name. Sign him up. Usually players with cool names are good players.

I'd imagine this is more a case of succession planning, having a number 2 who is regarded as a long-term number 1 and ready to challenge right away rather than as a replacement for Onana. As such, unlikely to be a move we prioritise over positions where we lack starters.

There are a lot of interested parties apparently so we'll need to be swift.

There's rumours that Bayindir might be on his way out so I imagine he would be the back up and competing for the number 1 role rather than be an automatic starter.

As good a reason as any

Onana has been better than his first season but any keeper that isn’t a fumbling wreck of a man on set pieces or crosses might help the defence a bit.

How I miss VDS's control of his area.

Just swap onana for him direct, save some transfer fees too

Onana is gash to be fair.
A save that springs to mind against Liverpool. It went straight at him and he just stood there and reflected it back onto the penalty spot.
It's the sign of a chit keeper.

Competing? He’d have to be pretty awful if he can’t oust onana. Which in that case, no point buying him

... or that of Schmeichel and Stepney.

Still at least Onana is a whole set of levels above the previous clown in most (if not all) necessary goalkeeping 'departments'.

We've just recalled Elyh Harrison from his loan spell at Chester, surely with a view to finding him a loan at a higher level or keeping him at the club.

I've heard he's the most talented keeper in our academy for a long time. You agree, TRS?

Yeah I would say so RR, he's one of the most highly regarded young keepers in England.

Can see us using the youth players more over the next few seasons as we struggle financially, I'm not against it either. A bit part of what is missing is desire and legs in the current team (especially back up.players).

As for his height, he's 1cm shorter than Raya and he's doing alright

posted 21 hours, 50 minutes ago

I've seen him described as 180cm, 183cm and 6'3 (190cm). Always hard to find accurate information, as young players grow, and the internet is full of outdated information and lies.
