I guess there will be different motivations for many, with many common themes. I think probably one of the main drivers is excitement. It’s exciting to these people, especially when they end up convincing themselves they know better than experts in any given field. Makes them feel more intelligent than they are.

These researchers failed to find supporting evidence that the number of conspiracy theorists have increased

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0270429

I'm also not convinced of that there's a wedge through society, or that the comparisons with the past aren't just confirmation bias for anyone who goes around thinking things are much worse than they were.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you read this all. Only onto the first conspiracy examined and it's talking about the potential for increase in conspiracy theories about COVID being accepted between June 2020 and May 2021.

Not exactly what we're talking about when we say it is on the increase. People who believed it in one yeah are likely going to believe it the following year. There's not really going to be much of a fluctuation there.

Woke is now defined in this dictionary as “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice),” and identified as U.S. slang. It originated in African American English and gained more widespread use beginning in 2014 as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I don't think being woke was ever a synonym for conspiracy theorist
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was. They were all over social media telling people to wake up. This was around the time of 4chan and people pushing conspiracy theories like Hilary Clinton participating with other celebrities, in a pizza shop basement of all places, in injecting Children's blood to keep them young. Somebody went into the pizza shop and shot it up. Turned out it didn't even have a basement. This lead to 'waking up' to the elite who are part of a global cabal controlling everybody. Turned out it the whole idea was planted by Russians but that didn't stop them, they were already too deep and moved onto other things like COVID and reopened the vaccinations cause autism etc conspiracies. 'Woke' was switched onto people who showed compassion for others, the environment etc. around the time of George Floyd IIRC.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ wait what, you don’t believe that there are elites who control the world and pull the strings of the government. Some call it “illumaniti”, but most likely its the rich banks & bloodline families

Yes - this has been proven to be the main motivator unconsciously for people who go down the rabbit hole. Studies suggest people who feel inferior intellectually than most gravitate easily towards this as it puts them into a group where they can feel superior intellectually to those they used to feel inferior to.

You’re prob taking the p lol but tbf i dont know much about that, haven’t really researched it.

What i would say though is, based on basic logic, it’s very strange mankind has not been back over 60+ years later, considering how much technology has evolved. I get the argument that “why do we need to, its a waste of money” but still find it strange.

I mean man has been to the moon seven times. Without some other reason to go, what is the point of an eighth time? I don't think that's strange at all. I think it's strange they went so many times.

I think it just proves how difficult going to the moon would actually be. In the 60s it was easy enough to film something in a studio and they probably thought they'd be able to get away with cos they thought the technology to actually get to the moon would soon follow but it hasn't so their faking of it back in the 60s has just become more and more obvious. They hadn't even invented tape players back in the 60s and we are supposed to believe they built technology to go to the moon? Give over.

TOOR

As you've pointed out despite numerous Covid conspiracy theories circulating on the internet during that time there wasn't an increasing number of people believing them.

Unless there's evidence that there's a greater percentage of people on the planet who believe conspiracy theories than there were previously (the authors say they found no evidence for this later on) it suggests that the internet is bringing conspiracy theorists together not creating them.

The assertion that the internet is increasing the number of conspiracy theorists sounds like a conspiracy theory.

I think the blanketing 'woke' thing being used as if it's a blight on society refers more often to legislation based on people being offended - police turning up at your door because you offended someone on Twitter. That's not ok IMO and presents a dangerous future
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The irony is that those (usually firm right wingers) accusing others of being woke are often offended about just as many if not more things.

I always find it strange no one picks up on this. It's quite an achievement of the right wing and their media spin that we've come to accept the so-called woke are the only ones being snowflakes getting offended. In fact much of the labelling of 'woke' is because the right wing (usually bigots and a certain demographic in the older generation) are offended about something or other.

Well as so it goes there was a “race to the moon”. But considering the exponential speed of technology in other areas (literally mobiles more powerful than the supposed computers that sent man to the moon) it should be easy to go back no? And to go back there are a few reasons e.g. seeing how it has changed, other countries may wanna go etc. moon probes are crap.

Anyway. So do you think 9/11 was legit ?

Getting big foot and ghost "sighting" vibes from modern internet conspiracy cants.

Oh now we have camera phones so you can actually capture what you "saw" now suddenly all these sightings go away.

posted 5 days, 13 hours ago

Anyway, as to my original point, being “woke” was to be against half the rubbish the far left push for, so the fact far left are now deemed woke is a p take to the real woke people ๐Ÿ™‚
