We don't have football colleges, if we did follow the NFL way half the idiots wouldn't be playing football since they need degrees to play.
I know but I meant just in terms of financial fair play. However, imagining people like Rooney at University certainly is amusing
Im dead against this
I shudder to think that if i went into a sports shop and bought a Spurs Kit, the money would be shared out between the 20 clubs, in what world can that be right! I buy a Spurs shirt because im a Spurs fan and i also know a large slice goes towards our finances
Only teams with less amount of fans would benefit from this type of situation
I cant understand why things cant stay the way they are? After all, this is just about money, money that goes towards players wages, nothing else, there will be a time where football will collapse..pretty soon too if things carry on
And then theres rumors of PL games being played abroad again..how long before half of the PL games are played in Asia?
The MLS has a similar program, dafts and a percentage of money from player transfers goes to the MLS.
But the problem football faces is teams threatening to quit for a super league and if teams were made to give merchandise and ticket sales to the FA I can see this being more so.
But no I wouldn't want this to happen cos it would cost us as a club and destroy our progress, the fans of the poorer teams (Wigan) would like it but the bigger teams wouldn't.
But one thing I would like done is getting rid of the prize money for finishing higher in the league and switch it around so the lower you finish the bit more money you get, would really help the smaller teams progress and challenge more.

Not sure i agree with that Doo Doo's....What happens when it comes to the last 5 or 6 games of the season where mid table teams cant get any European places and also cant get relegated, where's the motivation for them to put in the effort? As it stands now every team tries to finish as high as possible..mainly for money reasons, but at least it keeps the PL entertaining throughout the season

I agree, but at the same time it also GIVES opportunities to clubs like Spurs. It would even the playing field, so you could easily envisage your club winning a title, for example, something that isn't really in the mix at the moment. That's the thing with leagues like the NFL, you can still have dynasties, bigger teams, but it's much more fair. You have to build on youth, talent and every team has the chance to do it. There would be many, many intricacies to the implementation of this in England or Europe, but yes on a base level I am in support of this even though i'm a Liverpool fan.

True point, teams would just collapse for a few quid.
If they want this whole abroad thing, make a knockout stage with the teams who finish in the useless area of the league (no Europe and not relegated) play abroad giving them some extra cash and a chance to improve their reputation for extra merchandise.
Doo Doo's
Im DEAD against playing any games abroad! Maybe if there was a world wide salary cap put in place, teams wouldnt need to try and bring in extra revenue from abroad, wages are ruining football
The problem is, say a game is played abroad, and it goes down well and brings in the cash, whats stopping another 5 games being played, then 10, then 25? We will end up with the PL played in a different country
And its a possibility which is the worrying thing!
NFL does create a more level playing field but then it is frustrating knowing that despite sports teams around the world having a cyclical existence in the majority of cases, when it comes to success, in the NFL this is directly related in most seasons to who has what picks when it comes to the draft.
It's almost as bad as governement intervention in football over here in the way that change is forced upon NFL teams on a yearly basis.

Are there actual plans in the works to play EPL matches abroad?
How about reversing the prize money for positions in the Prem. That would liven things up as it's not as is the historical top 4 dont have huge turnovers compared to "lesser" teams. They cream it on a regular basis from the CL and marketing as it is.

Not a such Spirit, but i was listening to an interesting discussion about it, and people in the know said its still VERY much on the table and a possibility
Its already started in a round about sort of way...Blackburn played a friendly in India only a few weeks back to a crowd of 100,000 people
If rules were put in place to make the league financially a more level playing field it would help prevent sugar daddies coming in. The flip side of this though is that the league would be of a lesser quality

I follow the Dolphins who are shocking! My mate supports the Packers so it is tough atm!
I just feel that teams like City, Chelsea, Madrid and Barcelona are killing football with all their spending and debt. I doubt how much Uefa will follow through with the financial fair play policy Feel the Bundesliga should be the benchmark for other leagues. It is very competitive, low ticket prices, big crowds and entertaining.
Is the NFL "college draft" system fair, or is it distorted by the wealthier teams who can offer more $$$s for any given player ??
Each team can only spend a certain amount of money on salary for their roster each year. If they offer a player lots of money, then it will likely weaken the rest of their squad. In the draft, once a player is selected, he has to join the team that selected him. The player and team then have to come to an agreement of salary.

Lol, but it's a good system if used well, which happens all the time.. You only have to look at last years Superbowl winners to see that.
No worries RDBD. It just makes a change watching something where you know teams have a fighting chance, unlike the PL where only teams with lots of money win
Only problem with the draft is that there is so much competition for the first few picks that the value of the contracts is inflated to ridiculous levels. You have unproved rookies earning tens of millions of dollars through their first contracts. Still, contracts are generally worth about as much as the paper they are written on in the NFL so it's not so bad.
