As I said earlier. There is a difference between fans and supporters.

As far as I'm concerned, if you have never been to a minimum of 10-20 games in your life, you cannot be a supporter of a team.

Yes people in China etc follow success, but they are fans not supporters, IMO there is a big difference between them and your average match going Chelsea fan or those that went in the 60s, 70s, 80s etc.

Leeds for instance have huge support, but few fans in comparison to Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal etc.

Leeds could fill any away allocation in the country on any night, as could Newcastle to a lesser extent. Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs would not be able to fill the whole Blackburn end or Wigan end for instance, in the same way that City, Everton etc could not fill the same for clubs down south.

Unlike Arsenal and Spurs. Chelsea have a huge working class following, I suspect that is probably why we are called the "Ch avs" or whatever it is you call us. I call it a sleeping fanbase. I remember us taking 6,000 to Preston a few seasons ago for a 12.45pm kick off.

Look at how many West Ham fans came crawling out for Millwall. They could easily have filled a 60,000 seater for that game.

People underestimate Chelsea's support and always have done, same with West Ham. We are supported best when the chips are down, unlike Arsenal and Spurs.

Just my opinion

less than 10 000 for a prem league game when you were a nobody suggests otherwise.

Arsenal got 4,000 for a game against Don Revie's Leeds in the 60s.

QPR AVERAGED 5,000 in 1965

All clubs had periods of poor attendance. Ours happened to come in a midweek game against lower opposition when half our stadium was being rebuilt.

Spurs put their away games to Newcastle and Man Utd on general sale and still couldn't sell out, that would be laughed at down SW6.

They aren't availaible, it means you need 0 points to apply, before you needed around 60 which is a lot, prices have meant many dropped out. If you apply it doesn't mean you will get one.

Spurs do have good support, amongst the best in the country (coming from a Chelsea fan) but I disagree with those that slam our support.

Spurs fans above the age of 40 and below the age of 20 deep down know Chelsea are well supported.

My flatmates mate who is a Wolves ST so has no reason to be biased towards anyone said Chelsea's was amongst the best away support they had last season (in a midweek game which we lost)

But you said yourself that someone who hasn't been to more than 20 games cannot be considered a true 'supporter'.

You cant say that on one hand and then defend the 90% of your world-wide fanbase that are African

90% of our fanbase African? What the hell are you on about?

Being a supporter doesn't make you any less significant than a fan in my view I'm just saying you should judge clubs by

1. Away gates

2. Home gates

Then overall fanbase.

Fulham fill out Craven Cottage near enough every week but no-one is going to tell me they have more fans than Leeds. Leeds take at least 3-4,000 for every away game at Championship level, West Ham similar. These clubs are bigger than Fulham, Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn etc.

IMO Spurs wouldn't have had the gates they have had if they had to endure long spells of mediocrity like West Ham and to a lesser extent Chelsea.

Way before the gloryhunter period came around, clubs that were winning things always had the highest gates.

In the early years of the 60s, Spurs had the highest gates in the country, no coincidence this came at a time where they had their best team in their history. Same with Arsenal, Throughout the 30s they had by far and away the most support, because they dominated that era.

Towards the late 80s United's attendance began to drop hugely, probably why Sky were introduced but after Italia 90, attendances across the board all soared.

To use an example, pre-WW1 Chelsea averaged the highest attendance in England despite being a division lower than Spurs, Utd etc.

Our highest attendances came before we had ever won a trophy, unlike Spurs.

The truth is, gloryhunters have always existed, it is unfair to limit it just to Asian and African fans because even in this country we have it, hence why Liverpool and United are supported en masse South of England and even moreso in the Midlands

They are advertising their tickets in London Underground for Europa league games.. imagine what would be their support if they are in championship.

West Ham in fairness have only suffered around a 1-2k drop in attendance since their relegation, for some games they still get the same as they had in the Prem.

Fair play

The next 4 home games at WHL are on general sale. Imagine the situation if they have a bigger stadium like Chelsea and Arsenal.

And no need to mention about their 32k waiting list.

Holte was right about Spurs attendances and their 15k paying customers.

All clubs are suffering due to recession and price hikes, even United.

It's becoming clearer and clearer that clubs will only sell out (members and ST's) to their biggest rivals and top 6 teams etc.

Spurs game with City went on general sale, which surprised me
