"Who against?"
Senegal fans who racially abused him for choosing to play for France.
Marsala fans when he was the only black player.
..................
Are there any links to back that up? I must say, I have never heard of these instances before.

Not quite sure how that would work, either, given that Senegal natives are the same colour as Evra.
"Hey Evra you bl@ck wan@er" doesn't quite sound right coming from someone who is the same colour.

The big man makes a fair point.
"Senegal fans who racially abused him for choosing to play for France"
They are the same colour as him so it would just be abused NOT racially abused.

Well he asked if he was an idiot - I assumed rhetorically - so I rhetorically asked him if he liked rhetorical questions and he asked me if i was asking to which my reply was whether it was he who was, infact asking.
Help?
And I misplaced my comma.
The biggest shock of the wekend was Man utds second team getting a decent result at anfailed.
Suarez is not world class.
Hope this helps all you sh!trags
They are the same colour as him so it would just be abused NOT racially abused.
-----------
Technically, the fact that he is a French nationalist would make it racial abuse.
The Senagalese people abused him for choosing France over them. It could be interpreted as racist I guess.
We could do this all day

"I grew up amid a Senegalese culture at home." Evra said. "But we became westernised very quickly and when I had to choose between playing for Senegal or France my father told me to follow my heart.
"I opted for France, as that was where I had grown up, but I then came in for lots of abuse in Senegal.
"I was called a monkey who grovels before the white man and labelled a money-obsessed traitor to the nation. But my parents helped me get through it.
"I had not been back to Senegal since the age of 10. I have still not returned. It is 19 years now and I need an incentive to make me go."
Technically, the fact that he is a French nationalist would make it racial abuse.
--------------
I suppose it would be on the same level as an English person calling a Welsh person a sheep sh*gger.
"I was called a monkey who grovels before the white man and labelled a money-obsessed traitor to the nation. But my parents helped me get through it."

Here is my gripe, how is this not utterly offensive towards French people, white, black or asian?
I doubt anybody picked up on this at all.

Bit lame that.
His actual quote did not mention racist abuse at all. The headline did. He just said abuse.
You really have to stretrch your imagination to call this racist.
"I opted for France, as that was where I had grown up, but I then came in for lots of abuse in Senegal.
"I was called a monkey who grovels before the white man and labelled a money-obsessed traitor to the nation. But my parents helped me get through it.
......................
Now, had it been someone from the white race calling him a monkey, you might be able to find it there, but again, a bit of a stretch.

Thanks for the quote from Evra which clearly does not indicate any racial element to the abuse he rec'd.

Too many definitions for it, and that is the problem.
Racism is forever being used, when there is none there.
For example, I can fully understand how the 'golliwog' is offensive.
For the life of me I can not see how the nursery ryhme 'ba ba blacksheep' can be seen in the same context.

We will never know.
I would (and I think this goes for most United fans) like Evra to tell us exactly what Suarez was saying to him.
And even the most blinkered Liverpool fan knows fully well Suarez was saying something to wind him up. That is part and parcel of the game.
