Shouldn't the site be fixed to the left (like bbc's)?
Don't like the auto center float if the width of the browser is > 1024px.
+ content div is too close to the menu side bar. A few pixels to the right! I know you guys can do this in a minute so please take this into account!
Many thanks
No Na SLB
Not necessarily. Not606 has been up for quite a while and has therefore developed a loyal following. I don't really understand why so many like it there. The articles don't drop down in any order, i haven't got a clue if what i'm looking at is from last week, today or last year. It's all over the place. I really hope this one takes off but if i were the admins, i'd be pushing the ja606 promotion all over the original 606 site. It might get annoying, but they'll get the word out there. No such thing as bad publicity.
Hope the servers can take it...
------------------------
thats the good thing about getting it up and running now, ahead of time, it means the staff and the hosts can iron out all the bugs before that influx.
No matter how well planned any site is, there will always be teething issues.
Having spent many more hours on premium rate numbers I have been promised the server upgrade, once more. Again with an eta of 24hrs!
to the admin:
You fellas are doing this out of love for 606.
Can I ask how you plan to be able to keep it functioning should you get way more users/browsers of the site in the future? Are there plans for advertising etc?

P.S. Preview formatting's a bit weird.

Yes, when you preview, it joins all the text together with no paragraphs.
Admin1, great news. So, does this site cost any money to run, who pays for it, will ads appear over time?
On, back to formatting, 606 used to be .... was the width of one normal smilie like then they changed it. I'd prefer the old 4 dots thing myself. But whatever you guys can do is ok, cheers.
Why when I close my laptop do I have to sign in each time even though I haven't signed out?

because there is currently no 'keep me logged in' option.
It's on the staff's list to be done.

Most of those that liked the original 606 will surely have this one on top of their list. But yeahl I've seen Not606, which is good too but I prefer one without avatars, signatures, etc.

I agree.
i was wondering about advertising too. There's absolutely no way on earth the admins would go through this much work, sleepless nights and funding if there were no profitable gain. Of course there will be advertising and quite right as well. I'd bleed this as dry as possible. Can you imagine what these boys would stand to earn in advertising revenue if this is as popular as the 606 one. Very shrewd. As long as it never compromises the integrity of the site, i can't imagine anyone having a problem with it. Either that or they start demanding donations from members.
I said the other day, I was suprised that the BBC didn't simply sell off 606. The space on the right of the screen is taylor made for adverts.
BBC and advertising. Think there is a general conflict of interest there it being a publicly funded organisation. Hence lack of advertising on original site.
That would be my guess anyway.
Sorry, clicked before finishing. I would imagine advertising may be tied to conditions of 'passing on' the format etc. ?
I would be ok with adverts, specially google adsense and would be more than willing to give a few clicks p/week or something
Although no pop-ups or those that take over the whole screen, dim the background, and you have to press 'Close'
I can see a donation button coming up soon, they will need it unless they are very rich.
While I think that already this is the best alternative to 606 so far, here are some things that could be improved. Some of them are quite small, and you could call it nitpicking, but just my view:
Smileys...
I know it's been said many times but this needs some. If the BBC Smilies are not available and you have to create some ideally could there be the vareity that BBC had and also please no animated ones - IMO makes the site look tacky
Zoom out?
Possible for the page to either align on the left our zoom out so it covers the whole page? Just generally looks strange on desktop and it's a pain to zoom out every time you're on the iPhone when on normal 606 the zoom it was on was fine.
Remember Me
When logging there is no 'remember me' option, meaning I'll have to go throughthe whole typing in e-mail and password before accessng anything.
Latest Activity on Member Page
Very confusing, needs to be more like the original. If you comment twice on an article it actually shows the two comments individually unnescarily clogging up the member page. When someone replies, instead of showing 'latest reply' it says 'posted' which is what it says when you originally post something...meaning that you don't know whether this is your comment or someone else's reply.
Time-Limit Comments
While I'm glad that the whole 3 minute rule is gone, I think this still needs a time-limit between comments - at least 30 seconds and at themost 1 and a haldf minutes. Need to keep the site as WUM Free as possible - it's a clean slate after all!
Search
I know it was the same on 606 but the search is pretty useless. Is it possible that when you use search it actually searches both the title of the article, any tags, and the content of both the articles and comments?
Event Articles, Match articles etc.
Think they should come back on create an article. Quite useful when making a report on a match or if you want to include a number of teams.
Member count
Place where we can see amount of members?
Home Page for Website
While I like the blog, could we also see something like http://sportwitness.ning.com/ and http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/606/default.stm where we can see the latest news and/or best articles? Just think it looks more profressional and interesting.
Links
You'll probably find that the links don't work for some reason so even though it's copied and pasted it right you can't click on it straight away and have to go through the tedious process of copying and pasting yoursself
Character limit on articles?
Is there any? Instead of 5000 it says NaN at the bottom of create an article page.
<b>? <i>?
No bold and italics Very useful tool on 606, among other things like the qoute box and table etc. Could easily be implemented couldn't it? And although the original didn't have it, could we also have it on comments, at least just bold and italics?
for what it's worth Admin, I've been in IT a bit and I think 1 of your major issues will be load so make sure your service provider splits your load over a number of WEB servers, cheers for a great job!!
i am interested how are you going to recoup your cost on all of this ?
My article page is split into two. Can you help please.
Good to see a 'see all comments' option
Yay! They have fixed the recently comments bug on the comments page!!!
This place is getting better and better by the minute!
Admin you guys are brill!
Thanks for the compliments...I would have reserved those for when we have smiley's up and running!
Amin all that now needs to happen with the recent comments is to opop up at the top, also if its possible, once you comment on a thread it should not give the time until someone else comments on it. thats the way i tracked comments on 606
Hi Admin, some people can't seem to register on JA606 and don't know why, this was posted on 606 earlier on
- After your prompt yesterday I tried to register. I've just tried again and still it will not allow me to register. Just keeps telling me invalid this or that and they'll send another password but as yet no reply.
Is this problem down to the browser he's using or is it a bug that needs ironing out? Cheers, Natch.
The traffic would come no need to run to other sites. I have a few mates running how own some of the most influential media blogs - no harm in plugging ja606 BBC's alternative to 606. <inserts missing smiley>
One thing though admin, you need to make some additions just like the old board
Bring back the quote system
Add the ignore button
And print on a general chat room (for the off season and constant traffic)
Sign in if you want to comment
