It's exactly the way Man City went.
Thai Owners, Give Sven the job, Sack Sven, Bring in Mark Hughes, Does a good job, Sack Mark Hughes.
I wouldn't mind him tbh.
Please god no! Average manager unproven at this level.
The cabin boy - who do you want?
Mark Hughes is a good manager. However, I think he's more interested in himself and his own ego rather than others, hence why he left fulham, and would probably walk away from us after one season.
No thanks. He clearly comes with Issues...
For the record i'm not too keen on Hughes myself. But compared to some of the other names (Keane, McLaren etc) then yes please.
MON or Billy Davies are the only two names that would appease me after getting rid of someone of Sven's calibre.
Someone like Dave Jones or Billy Davies would be fine - they know this division. I also want to be loved.
Don't we all?
But what about their history of not taking clubs up out of the division, sometimes (particularly in Dave Jones' case) when he probably should have given the talent at his disposal?
Dave Jones took Wolves up?
Billy Davies took Derby up?
They had crap teams, imagine what they could do with a decent one!
Doctor Fox - And both went straight back down again, in Derby's case with added humiliation.
The cabin boy - Did they have crap teams, or did they bring in crap players?
Quite correct Dunge but they did get them there! And judging by our owners apparant desparation for getting exactly that.....!
Dave jones should have got Cardiff promoted with the squad he had.
Billy Davies should have got Forest promoted with the squad he had.
Iain Dowie got Crystal palace promoted - does that make him a good manager? - Probably not for me.
Ian Holloway got Blackpool promoted - does that make him a good manager? - Definitely not for me!!
Personally, I'd rather Mark Hughes cut out the middle man and walked (quite a long way) away from us before his appointment, rather than waiting a year.
Just seen this on BBC Sport:
Former Leicester midfielder Neil Lennon has backed Martin O'Neill to return to the club as the successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson.
"It would be great to see him back in the game, first of all," Lennon said. "One of his old adages was that you never go back, but I think it is very, very tempting for him."
In one way I'd love to think it may be true but if, as Lennon says, it was one of Martin's old adages that you never go back I'd doubt it. I'm not sure about Mark Hughes but would prefer him to Davies & Jones. I just hope the owners make a wise choice and give whoever it is a fair crack of the whip.
Mark Hughes is a good shout, he would be second on my list behind the obvious and if he wanted to come, then I'd be happy to have him. I don't think he can accuse us of not being ambitious enough though.
Where Man City & Blackburn happy with Mark?
Man City weren't happy with him, they sacked him but I think he was unlucky to lose his job. I think he was only a couple of places off the Champions League places at the time. Blackburn, he did very well there and left to take up the Man City job.
Blackburn finished bottom of the Prem fair play league in all 4 seasons Hughes was in charge there – is that really what we want, a team of cloggers?
Well our disciplinary record isn't great as it is.
Don't want Hughes, he's very uninspiring and has only really done midtable jobs without any 'fireworks' (and no I'm not on about Balotelli).
I mean he's not a terrible manager but he's never going to be a great one either.
If we can't get O'Neill I'd like to see us go for Di Matteo. Failing that, you could throw a blanket over Billy Davies, Lee Clark and Karl Robinson, all offer something a bit different and have impressive CVs - the latter 2 not in this division but they are young and you have to start somewhere.
I doubt we'll get RDM, recently appointed number 2 at Chelsea so I don't think he'll leave there.
But you're right in that, behind O'Neill, there are many candidates who all have pro's and con's. It's vital we get this decision right though.
