Beckford flops again

Eric, the call of the PL would take most players away from most lower div clubs!..

I'd have been as happy if he'd played on for us, but the temptation of the PL, and maybe his age and thinking it may be his last chance, I don't think to many on here would have done it any differently!..

To be fair to him, the support and service he got wasn't the best but, that said, there were too many occasions when the midfield had the ball and were looking for Jermaine to make a run in behind or come short to get the space for Nugent to come inside and go in behind but he stood still and didn't offer the midfield any options when they had possession. He also didn't run the channels well enough for me and gave up to easily on balls that were even fractionally over hit over the top to him. I do think we were too direct in the first half and didn't pass the ball well enough and there wasn't much movement either and because the ball didn't stick with Beckford up front, it just kept coming back at us.

I don't think he should play against Burnley and his place should go to Big Steve because Howard held the ball up when it was played to him and it allowed us to get runners like Nugent, King, Dyer etc. coming off him which we couldn't do 1st half because the ball never stuck when we tried the same with Beckford.

Also, the teams passing and fluency was a lot better 2nd half so you could say he would have been helped by that had he stayed on but I think a spell on the bench might help him and give him a kick up the backside mentally which might be what he needs but we shouldn't be turning on him like a few guys next to me were when he came off because that really isn't going to help him. I still think Beckford will come good for us and maybe he needs a more disciplined, hard nosed management style to succeed? However, whatever style he prefers, that wasn't good enough today from him and I think he knows it too.

Eric - yes indeed, a poor pick by Moyes too.

Greatness - spot-on analysis. And I too would now give Howard a start ahead of Beckford, if he's fit enough to put in a good part of the 90 mins.

He wasn't exactly David Moyes best pick was he?

Free transfer
8 goals in his first season
2.5 mill upfront possible going to 4 mill

Not exaclty the worst bit of buisness there has ever been.

The problem with Beckford is one that Leeds fans have said time and time again. He misses more then he scores, at Leeds he had players like Snodgras and Becchio providing him chance after chance and he knocked them in. However if he aint at a team that is built with him in mind, as Leeds were when he was there, he dosent get the amount of chances he needs and does not get the goals.

I think my reaction when I read it on the bbc was like most Leeds fans, not 'hahahaha', or 'grrr he should have signed for us', it was;

'really? thats a bit steep.

Interesting that other fans are now realizing that what Leeds fans said about JB after he left was accurate:

He scores spectacular goals
He needs many chances to score one
He is selfish
He does not work off the ball/for others
He sulks when things don't go his way

For me, it was no loss when he left but I don't think Leeds United treated him as well as he deserved to be treated (subsequently borne out by the treatment of other now-ex-players).

I don't see how JB was treated poorly by Leeds United he wanted to go and went. The subsequent treatment of other players has nothing to do with the way he was treated. In fact I would suggest that the club wanted him to stay more than Johnston and Kilkenny and tried harder to keep him.

Mind you I'm sure folk in distant lands that list five of his qualities (four of which are negative) have a much better grasp of the situation than most of us over here that attend games.

Just an opinion.

Less of the mate sunshine My closer ignorance due to attending games is fine by me.

A lot of sunshine here, a lot of ignorance there - keeps it all in balance nicely!

Fox fans just wait & see how lazy Beckford is seriously, I wished him well when he went, he was given a chance by Moyes but Moyes realised very soon what a mistake he had made, Sven also took a chance on a player who's confidence had been knocked. He's a player who needs to be loved he's 1 of those, I do wish him luck but my heart says he is gonna struggle without his comfort zone he had at ER.

Good luck for the rest of the season fellas

It may be sunshine there, but we have football to keep us warm over here. We get to see footballers on the pitch now and again, not just through the medium of telly!

Some of us have been kept warm by seeing trophies lifted!

You've not answered the other question on the other thread either I see, when was it you saw Duncan McKenzie actually play?

MOT with fans that have been to more than one game on holiday, and with those that only seen the one!

(There you're covered)
