I spotted that one and thought exactly the same thing, longtime. They were around the playoffs for much of last season, even if they have had a dreadful start to this.
There were plenty of other games that contrubuted to Sven's sacking.
Slack Jack, Sven's record was pretty good in the circumstances. He took over in a crisis last season, steadied the ship, and nearly got us into the play-offs. He relied heavily on loan players and we lost them at the end of the season. He then had to effectively rebuild the team. He should have been judged on his performance since the beginning of this season. It was not brilliant - how could it be with so many new players? - but there were signs of progress. I believe that if he had been given until the new year City would have been challenging for promotion. We are desperate for stability.
PS: Anyone know what has happened to Schlupp? Out of favour or what?
this is where we differ. Every game, this season and last, that was fundamental to us getting into the playoffs or even getting back to back wins we have lost. He had a whole preseason to gel the team and insisted then it wasn't an issue. Sven should have no complaints as he specifically said preseason was enough time for the team to gel and laughed off the issue at the time. Playing 5 central midfielders and some strange European tactical approach also showed his lack of understanding of the championship. If Sven had stayed we may have scrapped the playoffs, but I think it would have been unlikely given what we have seen so far and the distinct lack of balls we show when any significant climb up the table to possible.
Slack, I don't see how Sven could have come out and said look everyone, we have a complete new team and won't really get into gear until well into the season. Imagine how that would have been perceived by the squad, opponents and the fans. No he had to put out a line that they would hit the ground running when in actuality everyone including Sven knew that wasn't true.
Svens new side needed and still needs time - All this quick fix, must have it now is nonsense. Sven should have been given more time and sacking him shows our generous benefactor owners don't really understand how football works
Why don't we give Sousa another chance then, given more time wouldn't he have got us promoted?
Give it up, the owners realised they'd made a mistake and that Sven never had a chance of getting us promoted!
I respect your right to your opinion True Blue, as I'm sure you respect mine
And there is a clear difference to the football we played under Sousa, so if you don't mind I'll pass on that suggestion
The arguments the same though danger Fox, your argument is to give Sven more time, whatever you say he had over a year!
Sousa had how long?
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't advocate Sousa coming back, just that the scenario is the same.
It's no secret that I never thought Sven was the right man for the job ( no I'm not Steve Claridge ) but even I was surprised at Sven's early departure, something pushed the owners over the adge and I doubt we'll really ever find out for sure why he went now.
I put my faith in the owners as we have to really don't we but it's this next decision that's crucial now.
Forget Sven he's history ( well he has been for years really ) and lets look forwards.
Totally agree with everything you just said True Blue.
Slack, I don't see how Sven could have come out and said look everyone, we have a complete new team and won't really get into gear until well into the season. Imagine how that would have been perceived by the squad, opponents and the fans
.........................................
He could have said "given the wholesale changes this squad/team may take some time to gel" It would have been perceived as it would have been intended i.e reality.
This is an excellent squad in terms of individual ability, probably one of the best in years. It is stronger than the early days of O'Neill although his fabulous midfield of Izzett, Savage and Lennon eventually transformed the side. Several of his players were at first glance ordinary in ability terms but when they got into gear they formed a superb coordinated unit, a cracking team. Their achievements were way beyond what could have been expected.
What we are desperate for is consistency and stability. Instead they sack Sven. I am convinced he would have got us promoted given time. Moreover, I am sick of all the chopping and changingand with every one comes an influx of new players. We might as well have stuck with Nigel Worthington. A good manager coming in should be able to mould the squad into a team. My first choices are David Jones and Nigel Pearson. We should never have let Pearson go. Billy Davies would be sound but please forget Kevin Keegan and Roy Keane. We need a good sound operator with time to sort the situation out. Sadly, I fear automatic promotion is a no-go this season. The play-offs is the best we can hope for.
A good manager coming in should be able to mould the squad into a team.
Something I would totally agree with, a new manager will not necesarily mean a whole new team, if only Sven had thought that last season we might have got into the playoffs last year, than again he isn't a motivator but a big name spender.
I'm more hopeful now of at least making the play offs this season, I never felt we would before as the team was going nowhere!
Hi True Blue. I'm with Longtime here. Totally disagree with you on where we were going - I thought we were beginning to look promising for promotion. In my view sacking the manager has made us less, not more, likely to achieve that goal, due to the inevitable disruption that it causes. Sacking the manager just 13 games into the season is ludicrous - remember the Milan approach to changing managers which only succeeded in getting the club relegated?
As for last year Sven was only trying to do what the owners asked - get us promoted. If he was at fault there he should have been firm with them and said that promotion was not a realistic goal last year - this should have been for consolidation and a start to building a team which would have challenged for promotion this year.
After those 13 games we had already lost 3 at home!
***He could have said "given the wholesale changes this squad/team may take some time to gel" It would have been perceived as it would have been intended i.e reality.***
He could also have said, with an equal degree of realism: "David Beckham come to Leicester – what planet do you live on?" But he daren't. I have commented a number of times during the past year that it seems clear to me that there are certain things our owners don't want to hear.
Sven crossed the line very early in his relationship with them when he said something to the effect that shooting from rock bottom of the division to a promotion slot was a tall order, and that he would do his best, but it might have to be a case of simply getting the team winning and looking for promotion the following season.
This was rapidly slapped down with a statement from 'Top' that failing to get promoted last season was not an option. Having had his fingers burned rather publicly, from then onwards Sven just said whatever he knew they wanted to hear, and the tongue in his cheek was almost visible. Yes, of course we were putting out feelers for David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Shay Given… he'd have added Stanley Matthews and Pele if Top had heard a rumour that they were available.
"It will take time to gel" was not something he could say without being publicly contradicted by Top, so he didn't. He was hoping the team would actually gel quickly enough that things would be fine before the Thais' patience ran out. In the event, he was being over-optimistic.
And that's why MON won't come. He doesn't have Sven's ability to just agree politely (or at least appear to do so) with owners' demands and meanwhile ignore them and get on with the job. Tell MON that you want to sign Beckham and he'll say "Oh, that's just silly!"
Poxes and Wall discussing footie .... priceless !!! lol
Proof that 'You'll Never Walk Alone' should really have been a Leeds song, not a Liverpool one. People who 'lol' their own comments tend to have more than one voice in their heads.

There's no Millwall on JA606, l11ds, they're all somewhere else! I sort of miss them ..
Meanwhile why not use their board for further discussions?
On the article topic ... yes, I've noticed that that blasted "Millwall Express" seems to be clanking out of the sidings again .. let's hope it derails sooner rather than later
On a provocative note ( ) .. I thought you lot were going to walk this league with your swollen coffers and famous (ex) manager this season?
" Now Adam Clayton ....... oh WHAT A GOAL!!!"

You're dead right though ..... in a strange way i do miss the banter/abuse from those cheeky cocknees ....
Well they got derailled against us hope that makes you happy.
Leicester still won't be happy though thanks to Millens win
It did make me happy, Hawkmoonfy2
What's more, I think you'll survive this season, I saw you on one of my rare trips to Elland Road, ( I live in Truro now) and thought you played some decent football .. we were lucky to win it!
Adomah is an excellent player, I said so on the BBC 606 last season, and by all accounts he was key in the victory at Millwall. Hope you can hang on to him, and good luck for the rest of the season ( Leeds' visit to Ashton Gate excepted, of course)
I get where you are comming from ell and back I live in Blackpool so home games for me involve a long trek as well especially if I have to pick up the girlfriend on the way she lives in London.
