Derby 3 Portsmouth 1 - Old One-Eye's view

Saw this via News Now OOE.

Very good stuff, although I thought Varney's boots were more orange than Kitson's head.

Nice one Old One Eye ... well written and a very enjoyable way to close the book on a fine result. Looking forward to seeing the game tonight to check out the 4-2-4 you were talking about, you rated B Davies at a 6 did he not have the best of games???

fun read as always

Always enjoy your bits on Davies

Ben did ok - perhaps I'm a bit stingy. No-one did badly on Derby's side - my problem was that Varney's boots were dazzling me so sometimes things were a bit of a blur.

Fair enough OOE - I hope the temporary boot blindness is receding.

The next blindness might be due to the refractive index of the lightbulb-shaped features of the head of a certain Rob Earnshaw. Is he likely to be appearing (I hesitate to use the word 'playing'?

Actually, does Earnshaw even play for them? He's dropped off my radar entirely.

Great read eddie ?

I know, I know - the power of authorship and all that but maybe a liitle harsh to give Roberts a 6......thought he was quite solid and did his job with little fanfare or fuss.

Would it have made everyone happier if I'd given everyone 1 mark higher? Roberts was indeed solid, Anderson was a revelation especially when he moved alongside Shackell, Ben Davies was as effective as he's been for some time, Jamie Ward, Bryson or Maguire could just as easily have been MoM etc etc.

I tend to be quite conservative when it comes to dishing out the marks (a bit like the 2 Forest fans who read this thread and gave it 1 each)

Incidentally, I had a bit of a rage on Saturday.

There is a git - I cannot think of a better way of describing him - who sits one row in front of me and who was booing Theo the whole match. When Billy Whizz (oh, yeah - that'll stick!!) got injured, he cheered.

So, Mr Git who sits in North Stand row W seat 96 or 97, I hope you got a puncture on the way home.

We must have been watching a different game eddie, anderson stayed at right back and killer played in the middle...i'm sure of it!

Good read though

To tell the truth, Marco, I just make it up as I go along. I judged where Anderson was playing on the basis of him diving in the way of that shot in the middle of the penalty area, but seeing as the block followed a corner, you might well be right.

Bear in mind too that it was close to the perimiter of the Robbie Savage nose-crater, so that tends to push players out of position. Don't want to fall in that - you might never get out.

Actually what I meant to also say was that Roberts just gets on with it but woe betide him if he makes the slightest error and spectators are straight on his back. Its not fair as - playing left back has to be the most unglamorous, unsexy position in a football team.

Dead right, View.

Mr Git hates Roberts too - and woe betide Our Nige if he ever takes Ben Davies off.

View...90% of football fans are idiots, this is a fact.

The theo-bashers are the ones who get on my wick, the lad is visibly improving game by game, but woe betide him if he mis-controls it even once

Totally agree, Marco.

'Mister Sitter' is fast becoming my favourite player at the moment - the effort he puts in makes up for his failings in my book, and as you say, his failings are becoming less noticeable week by week.

Another brilliant Clough signing.

Did you listen to the phone-in tonight?

They were asking for everybody's first choice xi assuming everyone was fit.

Bloomfield, Davies and all the muppets who text in ALL has tyson in ahead of robinson!

Unbe-flamin'-lievable

Like i said, idiots.

I can understand where they are coming from, and remarked on it to the MemSahib a couple of minutes ago.

Nathan Tyson a couple of years ago was DEADLY!!! so I can understand their choice. Theo just might turn out to be an absolute gem though.

So, MILF and Eddie, why weren't Paul Green and Miles Addison included?

They DID ask for a team based on EVERYONE being fit.

Would you play green ahead of bryson/hendrick view?

I wouldn't...and barker/shackell beats addison.

However, we'll NEVER have a fully fit squad so it's all irrelevant anyhow

posted on 31/10/11

Hmmmmmmmmm.......a FULLY fit, on fire Green and Addison??? Maybe MILF, I dunno but as you quite rightly say its all conjecture and supposition....and bollox

Difficult decision. When Addison broke into the team, I thought that we were looking at a great in the making. Not as a central midfielder though, but as a centre half. He still might.

At the moment, I'm willing to wager that O'Brien and Hendrick will earn more than 50 international caps between them - but equally I might be wrong.

One thing's certain though - there's more promise in the current Derby side since the Jim Smith days - and it's been assembled on a shoestring.

Ack.

I mean THAN since the Jim Smith days.

Marco I agree, the problem is most fans are so short sighted that they cannot see past the end of their nose without being told what is in front of them.

Robinson was a gamble, but as a young lad we should have showed faith in him and I think he is really showing more faith/dignity to derby then derby is showing back, which says a lot about him. He needed time to find his feet, now he is, he is showing what Clough saw in him.

As for Green/Addison, I think Addison will make the squad, but not the team, with o'brian and barker both ahead of him and Shackell sort of unmovable at the moment...injures praying : P
-Green is a must in my books, though I love the play of Bryson and Hendricks, I worry that our problems come from them both being two attacking...still that not much of a problem and nice to think once fit, we have Bryson, Bailey, Hendrick and Green all fighting for our CM, cannot think of many teams with that quality in that position.
