Yep completely agree bwfc! I think he is the perfect candidate to take over that role. We need someone on the pitch that can bark orders. As much I like KD I am always dubious of a striker captain, because he should be at the other end of the pitch. Nige is passionate about winning (I wish he was passionate about Wanderers - but maybe that will come) and would give that needed leadership, something that is truly lacking at the moment. Good Article!
Ive felt our captain should have been Holden or Cahill after last season. Both our best players, can lead the team throught their committed performance.
However, since the signing of Reo Coker, its clear being captain and leading a team is something that is natural to him, if he is able to stand up and confront players and tell them where they are going wrong then fair play to him, you need someone like that to ruffle the team up. KD never struck me as a natural leader, he may be a classic striker, gent whatever you want to see...but he was missing a spark, something Nolan had, and something Reo Coker has.
This may spark a few questions - but for me, simply because Robbo and steinsson are hard men, and robbo will have a go at people i would have a think about making robbo captain! My first choice would be NRC, but Robbo must be in for a shout. My own article says we need a siege mentality, who better than robbo! or steinsson, both passionate tough blokes! COMON YOU WHITES!
Clegg. It might make dropping either of them difficult.
Steinsson is very passionate about the team that always shows when he plays.
The problem is though this season he is well off the pace and is clearly not in Coyle's plans for the long term as soon as Mears or Ricketts return then its bye-bye Steinsson and he will clearly not be given a new deal this summer either.
Cahill should be captain, by far.
Always organising, talking to his team mates, encouraging and the other players look up to him.
Cahill oozes confidence and calmness. Something that our players need a bit of
I wouldn't make Holden captain. I wouldn't want that to get in the way of his game.
I don't think it would though, Nolan thrived off it.. The fact he lost pace made him a worse player, Okocha was never a leader.. Holden would be I think. Very professional. It would be NRC, Holden vice with Cahill set to leave soon.
Holden is too young, and doesn't seem as vocal as Nolan was.
Holden is 26, Reo Coker 27, Cahill 25, Nolan was 23 when he was made captain. Age doesnt really have much of an effect if they are right for the job.
He has the right mentality and professionalism too lead in that manner, Before NRC i would have made Holden captain because he is vocal and he is a leader on the pitch, maybe not in a way that he muscles people about, but how he conducts himself.
NRC would be my choice though, captain at 21 at West Ham, captain at Villa last season, has the mentality and experience to have such a role. He is a winner. Holden as vice however.
Holden is not vocal enough. And he strikes me as a young kind of young. Unlike Cahill.
Cahill will be gone in the summer possibly January if he wants to go to the Euros as number one choice to start alongside Terry.
It does not make any sense to make him captain at present unless the contract situation changes anytime soon.
personally i would be tempted to try making jussi captain as he is very vocal, see's the whole game in front of him and by doing this it might give him back the spirit and desire to keep aclean sheet that seems to have faded in the last couple of seasons, NRC is a good choice but i dont agree with a player in his first season at the club being made captain so jussi for this season then if it dosn't work out swap to NRC next season
Jussi is not vocal at all he fails to control his box so i refuse to believe he could motivate the team from that position to be fair.
I agree that Holden should not be captain. If we go down, he may also have played his last game for BWFC, thanks to that potato muncher Evans.
Lets stay in the here and now and give it to NRC or Cahill.
