Howson seems to divide fans.

I personally think he is one if our best players and his work in the midfield is often understated. At times this season he hasn't performed as well as we have got used to him playing. This is clearly down to the change of formation.

However, I think Grayson and the players clearly respect him and are happy with him as captain. I don't see morale is low.

Morning all, Howson just gets on with things quietly. Sure, he makes mistakes, but who doesn't? He may not have the dynamic personality of a Kisnorbo on the field & therefore may not be the most demonstrative captain we've ever had, but I think he'll grow into the role if given time. Hopefully we'll hear soon that he's signed a new contract.

I have noticed so many games where Howson gives away balls, makes bad decisions and wastes opportunities.

Name these games. He rarely gives away possession and his decision making is usually good, playing the unselfish, right option more often than not.

People saying a player goes 'missing' just because he hasn't scored is not different from the way a 6 year old would talk about football performances. He's not being playing great, but he's not been bad. He's below the form he was in last season, but he's playing a more disciplined, deeper position this year.

He gets over the top criticism, whereas Clayton gets praised for average performances. People even talk about how Pugh has been playing well, and then say Howson is terrible.

People don't understand that if everyone was flying forward we'd get killed on the counter attack. And they expect him to be jumping into tackles all game, as if any players do that anymore.

Clayton had a brillant start but last ten games has been no worst, no better than Howson, infact been probably worse.

I have kept silent on the Howson issue. The reason for this is that there are people who just seem to decide that they think something and no matter what it does not change. We had it with Greegan, we had it with Doyle, (I ain't saying these two are the greatest players, but I saw quotes on the old 606 after they has great games saying they were the worst player on the park) and now we are seeing it with Howson.

They were just two examples. Like I said they were not great players but got slated no matter what. Johnson was the same last year.

Take clayton, I was his biggest critic, but I hold my hands up and say I got it wrong.

Clayton has picked up 4 MOM awards this season and Howson has not picked up a single one and not scored for 26 games but I am sure you are right that he has been better than Adam Clayton-
