like i said..having watched it back it looks like sodje headbutts the back of alan lees head, or shoulder..he jumps into the back of lee and comes off second best, thats all..
any right minded person with the first idea of football would rescind it, but we are talking about the fa who know fa about football but a lot about money..
I'll say again, Lee should have known better but kept going back for more, and then acted like a tool everytime the ref game something against him, even though the ref was in fact getting decisions right and wrong for both Sodje and Lee as they were both at it. I thought it looked like a red at the time and I can still see why a red was given now. My only question would be why Burgess wasn't even given a yellow for a much more obvious elbow in the first half.
the answer is;
the ref didnt see either incident..the town player didnt roll about on the floor clutching his face.. the linesman also didnt see either incident...strange really because i and most of the people around me saw them because we were "watching" the game..
refs made an arbitory decision on something he didnt see, its a guess at best and lee got sent off because he has previous, simple.. sodje has spent his career playing a bit then being out injured for ages, i have seen him "go off injured" a number of times but never when his side were winning and he was having a decent day, it says a lot about the incident on saturday i think..
The incident in the first half where sodje flew through the air some time before the ball even got there and grabbed lee round the neck pulling him to the ground was a bit indicative of what was going on.. Agreed lee should have wised up by this point in his career but he was penalised a number of times for sodje jumping into him early and then falling over.. a ref that had actually played the game might have spotted it, this one certainly didnt.. Lee was sent off before for an obvious piece of stupidity, but not this saturday.. I slated him last time, not this time..
Lee set himself up in the first half when, following a clear foul on Sodje just inside the right apex of the are - he stood in disbelief - held his head in his hands - held his arms in the air - in blatant body language he was telling the ref he was incompetent in front of everyone.
I don't think anyone can clearly say from the footage whether the red card was a red card or not - hence the differing views on the incident - but the way Lee had carried on the ref was going to lose patience sooner or later.
Its the way he plays his football - he's always grappling, arms everywhere - ends up on the deck after every challenge. If he played for anyone else you'd all think he was a right winker. Its not the defenders, its Lee. Rhodes has the same defenders marking him, never gets booked, raely commits fouls, stays on his feet - and pops in 10 times as many goals. Bring on the suspension and the Novak-Rhodes partenership.
I agree with EggNogBobs first 2 paragraphs, but massively disagree with the 3rd.
Rhodes/Lee > Rhodes/Novak
I'm not saying Lee isn't effective Cas - he's just horrible to watch. Our Plan A is now to just float the ball forward to him and see which way the ref gives the free kick. Not good to watch.
bob..
lee might score from a "challenged header", jordan wont.. there will be days when jordan does not get a free header...
sodje is not really a good example of a centre back being bullied by alan lee.. sodje does not wait for the ball to arrive, he makes his challenge long before..thats a foul everytime, whatever lee does after is immaterial, its already a foul by sodje.. kay has a habit of challenging "early" whilst p clarke has a habit of attacking the ball sometime after its gone.. just because they are 3rd division defenders does not let them off the rules of the game..
hawley time and again on saturday just stepped across clarke and kay as they went forward towards the ball, he didnt make an attempt to play the ball he just blocked the opponent from getting to it, great centre forward play but its still obstruction..
Agreed we dont vary it enough when lee is on and being honest against charlton im all for rhodes/novak starting whatever happens with lees appeal.. We need to be using the space behind the defenders rather than hitting hopeful stuff in alans direction, its ok at home as we tend to support him better but away he may well get too isolated and itll just go to sh-t..He has been doing some chasing down and running into channels but he is not the ever ready bunny that novak is..
I disagree. it's no coincidence that since the rejuvenated Alan Lee this season JR is having his best season ever. He might be ungainly and fall over a lot, but he is combative and a nightmare for CBs and opposing managers..he takes the knocks instead of JR having to take them. he is athletic and chases lost causes which we have lacked , especially last season.
In a way he's a bit like Crouch who is all arms and legs and gets pulled up most times for fouls too. AL's contribution by holding up the ball, taking the whacks and chasing the ball down is the single biggest factor in Towns performance this season, for me anyway. I have stated on here months ago we need a similar striker to cover this role, probably a loanee, because AL will miss games thro' suspensions and if either JR and/or LN are missing we suddenly look very lightweight up top.
Thankfully LC seems now to agree and has said he'll bring in a loanee if indeed AL gets suspended, which he probably will knowing the FA. Not sure when the hearing would be, will it be before the Charlton game and if not will LC bring in a loanee anyway ?
maybe Andy Booth will make a cameo appearance....
Town will find out the result of the appeal at some point tomorrow, and will then be able to make a move for someone on loan before Thursdays deadline.
Who do we want? I think LC has already got his eye on some one .... who tho ?
It'll be Howard or Parkin if we bring anyone in...
bring em both in..last 15/20 minutes start lumping it up and into the middle, chaos will follow
parkin ? that would be chaos. Howard would be okay...but it'll just be a months loan , yes ?
They'll be calling us the 'crazy gang' next ...
Rhodes heading ability is so much better than Lee because he climbs so well. His goal on Saturday was by no means a free header - he just timed his leap perfectly and got well above the defender. If it had been Lee do you really think he'd have scored that? Really? No, of course he wouldn't, they'd have both ended up in a heap with AL's head up the guys shorts and a melee of twisted limbs.
You don't like Alan do you eggs?
You can't make an ome'lee'tte without beaking of few eggs...
Shininess doesn't even go to games so how he know how alan plays.
Eggnobhead doesn't even go to games so what I want to know how he know how Alan plays.
bob it was a great cross and jordan wasnt challenged.. its a good header, exact copy of the pne goal, but again unchallenged..
if we can get more first time crosses in like that both he and lee would score even more.. its not always the quality of the cross that makes the difference its how quick it comes in before the defenders get to mark up..we dont do enough quick uns..
Alan Lee is a smashing team player, Who is supposed to be as mad as a hatter at training and a bit of dude who all the players and coaching staff like, Every successfull team need a Big Al, Our loan signing will be badboy Ranger,
Ranger just went on loan to Barnsley
Lets hope we win the appeal!
