Without watching Spurs every week it would be hard for you to tell, but Modric is our heartbeat, he gets the ball moving and looks to play people in who would then play strikers in.
Dont let his assists rate impair judgement, I would like to see how many goal scoring oppourtunites hes created that our tame strikers couldnt actually convert.
The best read to describe how modric is valued so highly for us is this:
http://football-talk.co.uk/24644/luka-modric-simply-irreplaceable/
Modric is a great player, he is the link to the defending side an attacking side.
He sprays passes all over the pitch and while his assist's rate is low when it comes to assisting assisters (if that makes sense) he is probably miles on top on that score.
Modric is not a bad, but certainly not a great player

Try watching him play mate and you will see how wrong that comment is
I dunno what it is with Chelsea fans on these forums especially, but the only justification alot of the time behind the dislike of a player or manager is his "stats" ...... Spurs fans will tell you their team revolves around him. He's the link to everything (back four, midfield and the strikers).
N i dunno where you got the idea that he shys away in big games. He's been constantly excellent against us for a start, i remember him running the show against Utd at WHL last season, did fantastic against Liverpool home and away.
So far he has only lost once against us and never against Arsenal, if only he was a big game player lol
baz_g
n in the one game he lost against us he'd won the midfield battle on his own up till the hour mark lol
Completely disagree with this article
First of all, stats are not everything. Xavi, Iniesta, Scholes, Makelele-their goal stats are distinctly unimpressive but I don't think there can be any doubting their importance
Anyone with half a brain can see just how important thse players are. Modric for my money was Spurs best player last season. Reads the game so brilliantly, watch a Spurs game and see how many of their chances originate from Modric
If I was an advisor to Roman I would say sign him up whatever it takes
Modric is overrated. 3 assists this season is hardly tge creative master peice we are seeking for. He would get found out at the top level. All he is a decent passer and Mikel is already a very good passer. I'd rather see Josh given a chance
Silly statement
Stats can lie
Modric is class just like xavi
Totally agree with you GSKE BLUE ARMY (U2352)
Us missing out on Modric would be a blessing in disguise, because then we can focus on getting Pastore only.
Comparing Modric to Xavi is an insult to Xavi. Modric is just a decent Premier League midfielder. What does he do that Adam, Nasri, and McCarthy all NOT do, considering those players would be younger anc cheaprr - and two of them are homegrown.
Wigan apparently looking for £20 million for McCarthy, wouldn't be much cheaper. Blackpool won't let Adam go on the cheap either, Pool's interest will inflate the price hugely
Nasri for £10-15 million would be worth a punt I'll admit but as I've said above imo we need Modric more
It is shocking people comparing xavi or iniesta to modric? While i agree that stats is not everything, we need to bear in mind that the most important element our current team lack at this moment is a player who can provide the final pass for our strikers(Torres) and i do not see Modric as the best option in the market especially when we can get a younger more talented player(Pastore) at about the same price. I would even prefer Arsenal Nasri who will be available at almost half the price Spurs will want for Modric
Modric took you apart almost single-handedly.
How on earth anyone can confidently state that Modric is not a great player is beyond me! Have you people never watched him play? And I don't mean from the comfort of your armchair. Have you actually been to a match and seen how he controls the midfield? Almost invariably, whoever we play (and I'm including our draw against United last season), Moddy is the best player on the park.
And that is the very reason why we won't sell him. There is no price you could (willingly) give us that would make it worth our while selling him. If we did sell him, we would, effectively, be conceding 4th and 5th places next season.
You Chelsea fans are so fickle. Last week everyone was calling for Pastore, Sneijder, or Neymar, and as soon as there is news of a failed bid for Modric, suddenly he's everyone's favorite player.
Not to mention the amount of "fans" calling for 2-3 £40mil+ signings is ridiculous. Not to mention you guys just splashed out £75mil 6 months ago.
