Honest my friend I mean no offence but my whole article is about the fact that no one can be the new stevie g and if they do become that good , all be it a diff player , then they will inevitably end up with the new in front of their name. We wouldn't have noticed Gerrard so much if he'd played alongside the likes of Souness, McDermott, Kennedy et al. The team back in the day was a team of Stevie Gs. All capable of pulling the team up single handedly.

Don't get me wrong he's still one of the best I've seen. It's just a shame we haven't seen more of that quality of player during the Premiership.

Agger doesn't that fact he has accomplished what he has as liverpool captain with worse players around him make it a greater accomplishment then souness Neil or crazy horses ?? the fa cup final the Olypiakos game the champions league final. If liverpool had lost that game to Olypiakos we would be in a worse state now i tell ya that much.

I haven't seen yet anybody comparing him to Steven Gerrard, apart from saying he plays in the same position. Although he does have some similarities, he reminds me more of Lampard, that is not to say he is the next Lampard, before you jump in.

There are many players who have played for Liverpool who have had the drive of Steven Gerrard, it is perhaps after seeing this, where he learnt it from. He has been a fantastic player for us but there have been many, many better captains in Liverpool's glorious history.

Also don't take to heart what a few people say. Don't be so angry.

There'sOnlyOneReds man I've been posting on a site where people debate with you instead of just picking out little points here and there and belittling the whole post. The point of this post was to say he will never be replicated just as souness wasn't or anyother captain we had. I said possibly one of the best , there is no doubt he is up there , it is not his fault that are club was up brown creek with out a paddle for a large part of his career. if we didn't have him we wouldn't have won that fa cup champions league and we would have been with out champions league footie for a lot longer then 2 seasons. My OP leaves it completely open to the reader to weather they think he is the best captain or not so I don't get where this focus on that subject has come from other then jimmythe wum red !!

it's an interesting question, would Souness or the others been able to lift the same players as Gerrard has over the years? I would guess yes they probably could have. But like you say Gerrard has done it in many games where he has been depended on. So o agree he deserves his place near the top of the elite at Anfield.
