It's amazing how seriously you Man Utd fans have taken what was just an easy gag.

Well....havent you been debating it seriously too?

"No one, that is why I was asking you who was making it?"

You said "not me."

Forgive me for thinking that was you implying that someone had suggested you made the comparison.

Also it had already been pointed out that good defenders being outplayed by good wingers isn't anything to be ashamed of so to bring up Giggs after that was a bit silly wouldn't you think?

................

Silly how? You bought up Overmars skinning Neville then said Dixon was a better RB

Only fair I should mention Giggs skinning Dixon, don't you think?

Or can it only be one way with you? I thought you were one of the better Gooner posters. You are lowering yourself to Dubbed standards here.

It was an easy mistake to make.

"Only fair I should mention Giggs skinning Dixon, don't you think?"

But the point had already been discredited. I'm willing to admit I made a mistake, but for you to then repeat that mistake seems a bit daft.

And no, Vidicschin, I'm lowering myself to your standards. Which I have no excuse for.

You made two. Mentioning Dixon was the other one.

As I said earlier though, Dixon is a good name to throw into the hat on the subject of this thread. Far more than Neville, that is for sure.

Erm... but Dixon was part of Arsenal's famed back four.

If anything, during his time with the Gunners he was at least partially responsible for making a few ordinary midfielders look better players than they were.

Gary Neville isn't the greatest of shouts for this thread, but then neither is Dixon.

Not by a long way.

I can't recall one game JB had for England (outwith Brazil) where he had a good game. The most over rate player ever to pull on a Liverpool shirt (oh add Mcmanaman to that as well)

Neville was part of United's.

As a United fan I think Arsenal's back 4 is more well known than United's. If that back 4 didn't exist I can imagine Wenger's reign at Arsenal would have been a lot shorter.

"Neville was part of United's."

-----------------

Which is why I said it wasn't the greatest of shouts to include him here.

Besides, when football supporters of any allegiance talk of all-time back fours, Arsenal's quartet of Winterburn, Bould, Adams and Dixon usually gets a mention.

Only Man U supporters talk about Utd's.

^^^That sounds more dismissive than I intended.

As well as being incorrect.

Keita is actually a really good player (nowhere near as good as Xavi, Iniesta or Busquets), he played more games than anyone else as Barca last season. I don't think the others made him look better than he is, he's a very good player and looks it at Barca.

People often said the same thing about Yaya Toure at Barca but look at him at City.

Vidicschin (U3584)

Grow up, just admit that the Arsenal defence of Dixon, Adams, Bould, Winterburn is considered the best back four in England over the past 30 years.

posted on 22/11/11

I dunno. He might be a good player but he sticks out like a sore thumb as he has the passing of Wilson Palacios. All he is good for is breaking down play and scoring the occasional goal.

posted on 22/11/11

Didn't Arsenal let in just 17 goals in one season?

posted on 22/11/11

But I wouldn't say the other players make him look better than he is, he is quite clearly not as good as the others but still looks as good as he is IMO.

I think it's a hard question to answer because maybe to a lazy observer players can seem better than they are based on the players around them but watch any game closely and you can soon see if a player is useless.

------------------------------------------

Ridiculous isnt it?

At the age of 20 Neville replaced Dixon in the England team and pretty much ended his international career. He also got into the PFA team of the year that season, and the following 3 seasons. Yet Lee Dixon was outperforming him.

Neville was in the PFA team of the year 6 times in total, to Dixon’s 2.

They are certainly the most famous back 4, but the best ever? I don't think so. Liverpool in the 80s was better and almost all of Fergies back 4s have been a lot tighter.

That back four of Arsenals was decent. The way they all put their right arm in the air at the same time for an offside wasnt off the cuff you know. They practised that every day in training.
