Without doubt it is the best team I can remember anyway mate I dont think we're title challengers yet though.

As a supporter since 1958, I have to say YES!

No.

The team of 86/87 was very good (if only we had kept Graham Roberts - Gough + Roberts) .

And I <applaud> the team of 81/82 for making a better assault on the quadruple than the G00ns can ever dream of doing.

Best team I can remember since 1987. My first spurs memeories 1984 so I havent got much to go on before that.

I have also like geniusgreaves been watching Spurs since season 1958 , and I think I have to agree with him.

Aside from the double side, which was a one-off unbelievable team, and no team in my opinion has or will give me more pleasure as a Spurs supporter, the team we had early 1980s with Hoddle, Ardilles, Roberts, etc was pretty usueful. But I think this team and squad beats that, because of the depth of the all-round talent.

Gary Stevens in and Chris Hughton in the first team?

Replace samways with Ossie and Roberts with Hodge and put Paul Allen on

Garry Brooks, Chris Hughton, Tony Galvin, Paul Miller, Mark Falco were all part of the 82 squad.

Not my choice that was the team.

and samways wasnt in the team until a few years later.

was steve hodge playing for us in 86 ?

yeah, samways played with gazza and lineker thinking about it ?

i dont remember garry brooks, but yeah galvin, hughton, miller and falco were bad misses.

Depends what part of 86 you're talking about?

In the 86/87 season we had a five man midfield of Hodge, Hoddle, Waddle, Ossie and P.Allen with 49 goal Clive Allen up front. Oh and little Nico on the bench.

i still havent quite worked out what the prefered line ups were in the other 2 contending teams (in spite of the guidance given), however i am getting the impression that on a head to head basis, neither would beat the current team. as last night showed this team is also playing superbly with a team and with a work ethic which was unheard of in the 80s.

JPB :

on the 80s work ethic comment.
Especially the 81/82 team with their marathon fixture list.

I went to Villa for the first away match Clive hit all 3 ...

He was the dogs that season wasnt he. I reckon we would have won the league the next season if Pleaty could have stayed at home at night.

It's the best team I've ever seen, but as a 19 year old it's not really got much to beat has it

the early 80s team were best so far i have seen and going for 4 trophys that yr, this team can be better though but hav eto win things to do that

we would of won the title that yr if we had been knocked out of the cups early. top after 27 games

1882 :

I remember at the time the red tops actually published articles on whether Spurs could do the quadruple. And the "experts" of the day saying if Spurs beat the mighty Liverpool in the League Cup final, that could provide the self-belief and impetus to do it.

3-4 mins away too (Archibald near the end !!! - though to be fair none of the futile four would have got that chance on goal after 100 attempts) . .

1882 eh?

I dont think its fair to lump defoe with the others. he had an off season, probably due to injury and to knowing that all the other strikers couldnt score a goal between them. he has scored some stunning goals this season again, including yesterday's. for me he is one of the best finishers in the league.
