Clough is like Xmas

I agree with a lot what you put but if you look at the games we have won this season they could have gone either way apart from 2

If Clough were to go and GSE remain I dont see things improving a great deal

1, Would GSE pay compensation for a decent manager and would they know what a decent manager is?
2, Would a decent manager come under the constraints what GSE put in place?
3, We will never have a top draw striker under GSE that you need to be consistent, we have had a proven striker that will get around the 20 mark since Hulse and GSE wont pay the transfer fee or the wages for one. Nearly every other club in this division has one BTW

Clough is part of the problem but the biggest problem for me is still GSE

Would agree with bushwacker that the problem with Derby is not the manaager but GSE who run the club.
You build a club slowly providing decent players as and when you can afford them, GSE have ripped the bottom out of this club to keep costs down to next to nothing. All decent players have been sold off and sadly the club is going nowhere while these idiots GSE remain in charge. A manager cannot buy players with little money being made available so I am afraid Derby are going nowhere, not even with a new manager because we simply cannot afford one....the club is skint.

I would ask the question that if GSE are refusing to give NC the money to go out and buy decent players, why did NC agree to sign a new 3 1/2 year contract.?

Would you trust Clough with millions to spend?

I think there is a compromise to this.........................
GSE are good at what they do, but they do not know football.
They need to employ a football brain in the middle.
They have already identified this, GSE need to bite the bullet and do it.

GSE need to stump up some cash instead of running a club the size of Derby on a budget for a league 2 club

Would I trust Clough with a war chest of £5m probably not

To sum up my opinion Derby are going nowhere while wither on are there. removing just one of them wont solve any of Derby's problems

The worrying thing for me is;

Derby County manager Nigel Clough tells BBC Radio Derby his team were "very, very good" against Brighton despite losing a fifth game in a row.

Bush, mostly mistakes don't need explaining but in this case it did. Thanks.

I totally agree with the comments regarding GSE.
But with Clough, He spent £600k on Maguire and £600k on Dave Martin. We are struggeling up front and these 2 are nowhere near the team.....Clough chased Maguire for nearly 3 months. Yeah we need more money to spend on players but would you seriously trust Clough to spend it wisely?
We need an experienced midfielder and he's let Pearson go on loan.....People say its becuse of his high wages....He's not paid as much as Barker, Shackell, Leacock and noway near as much as the highest earner who is great value for his wages....Tyson...

Tyson isnt the highest earner but thats way from the point.

He has wasted time and money persuing players like you mention.

Time to go...

It's good to see decent debate about Clough's merits without resorting to polarised views of "haters" and "happy clappers".

I think he's not shown enough for his extension to be justified and have made no secret of the fact I think he should be replaced BUT!!

As Bushy eventually managed to type, GSE are at least as much a problem. Do I believe that there's a war-chest there and they're just reluctant to let Clough spend it? No. Do I believe Clough would spend it wisely if there was? No. Do I have a solution that doesn't involve Sheiks, oil money and a complete disregard for the sporting fairness of honest competition? No.

Seial...I've been told that Tyson is the highest earner...if he's not the highest 1, he'll be 1 of the highest. He would of made the move from down the road worth his while....Pearson took a massive pay cut when he signed a new contract under Clough a couple of years ago. I've had enough of clough signing loads of players that aren't up to scratch and he then has to replace....It's like buying a cortina then having to replace it with a sierra the following year....eventually he might buy a focus.

The figures are exaggerated Lee, but its beside the point. He's wasting the money he is given.

I think Bushwacker made some great points, esp his first post. If Clough goes, does anyone seriously believe GSE can get the decision right about a new manager? What we really need, as someone said, is a DoF able to act between the manager & board.

I actually think Clough can spend large sums of money well : we've been linked with some good players from Hooper, Sharp, Pitman but nothing materialised.

The trouble is, with money being at a premium, practically every signing must work and we can ill afford fringe players (Cywka, Maguire) alongside injured ones. Clough has shown an eye for a bargain (Ward), but like many managers has a failure rate (Burley too, I remember that defender from Crewe, also Mo Konjic, constantly injured).

That's not to say he has made some strange signings. Dave Martin cost around £200k, but it seems he was signed after one good against us for Millwall in the cup. The situation regarding Maguire & Tyson is another issue weakening Clough's position.

I think the new contract issue ought to have waited, but the media speculation, as per usual, got everyone hysterical and it took place before yet another injury crisis up front.

OK so weve reacted too soon with Nigels contract, in hindsight it was possibly a bad decision.
What should GSE do, stick with it - at this rate (the term of his contract) we could be on the verge of the conference or realise they have made a mistake and haul Nigel into the office and say you have got the next 3 games & we require a minimum of 6 points and if you dont achieve it your out.

posted on 30/11/11

Millwall stated that the deal was worth up to £600k for them when Martin left....
regarding the contract issue. I stated on here we should wait untill Jan to see where we were. But as usual on here if your view is different ot some you get shot down...

The money spent in the summer relieved some of the symptoms but not the underlying cause. The patient has relapsed and haemorrhaging points and ambition .

Two changes are required to put the Rams on the long term road to success: GSE out and Clough out. Although there is not yet the head of steam amongst fans to accomplish that, rest assured Agent Clough is working on it...
