What was Evans' mistake? Getting shoved for the goal? Thinking the lino may have given the offside?

posted on 1/12/11

Excatly, when a forward is in an offside position, it makes it alot harder to mark them... simple really.

I don't begrudge Palace for getting a bit of luck, but it was not a mistake by Evans...

Smalling is superb first of all. I thought Gibson was ok myself, he just had nobody else around him to create anything. Diouf and Macheda were woeful and it is just not the kind of match to play Berba. He should be busting a gut but we all know he won't do that in this kind of game.
We need to clear out certain players to eventually give more chances to Morrison,Pogba,Tunnicliffe,Fryers,Cole,PetrucciKeanes etc.
The players I believe we need to let go are:
Berba,Owen,Diouf,Macheda,Anderson,Kush,Evans(?)and Giggs to retire and buying 2 quality players, creative midfielder and young exciting forward. Zahar at palace looked better than any of our forwards !!! Why not ?
Rooney,Hernandez,Wellbeck + 1 !!

That in itself is the problem with Gibson. He is not capable of taking a game by the scruff of the neck.

Petruccci is nowhere near first team standard yet, his growth spurt really screwed him.

Gibson played well last night, looked our only goal threat for most of it and played some decent balls. Never easy for midfielders to pick passes when the strikers are playing musical statues

Some of that I agree with but some not:

Smalling IMO is a better player that Jones, Morrison is ok but lets face it he was up against a poor tem last night. Fryers should be given more games at LB, Diouf I'll pay his air fare. Gibson did ok but again we were playing Palace, Kiko has one of the worst first touches I can recall and appears to be going backwards.

On a different note (I will get shot for this), Hernandez has been very poor and I'd give Berbs another go up top.

IMO we need a top class gaol scorer in the same mold as Ruud and a top class CM like Scholes. Rio is getting ols and SAF has already bought cover here we then just need to get a settled fit RB

Vidicschin - Yes i know but he actually played ok last night. We can't continually get on his back when he has hardly played any football. It's not the easiest thing to slot straight in and expect to be man of the match. I like many others have criticised him in the past and don't see him as United standard to be perfectly honest but I did think the lad was ok last night. Much more seasoned pros, Berba,Valencia,Park should be getting slated for inept performances.
3 points saturday is a must and with Wolves,Blackburn,Wigan to come a haul of 12 pts from these 4 games would see us closer to City I believe.
We all know what is needed, quality in CM !!
Quite simply tey need to splash the cash, be it Goetze,Eriksen,Schneider, quality costs !

So Gibson played OK against....yes thats right Crystal Palace...big whoop. He's Crystal Palace standered anyway.

Agree dennis about Hernandez completely but he is a poacher. We have missed Wellbeck a lot and if he continues to improve will be the real deal.
I think SAF will buy CM,young forward (Not what you want hey!) and a left back and that will be his final young team with some of the youngsters coming through. We really need to keep Pogba, he looks class

Don't you think, that at this stage of his career, he should be doing more than OK?

Yes i do , that's why i said he is not really United first team standard. He played better than ok yesterday. I would sell him though. I am just saying he has not played much football and its not easy to slot straight in. We have had world cup winner that have struggled,Kleberson.
When Keane came back from injuries his first few games were always very average until he hit the groove and was match fit. There are not many players that can play effortlessly well after not featuring very much. I am just defending him for once that's all.
In my world SAF would go and buy 2 quality CM midfielders!!!!

You can only play against what's in front of you, and he's one of the few that did

When i saw that Evans was starting i knew we had a 'slim' (wafer thin!) chance of some kind of result. I don't rate him at all and definately not at your club.

That aside, a huge result for us but a minor blip in your case. You've got much bigger fish to fry and i wish you well.
All the best for the rest of the season

You can have Ambrose and Zaha

I can guarantee you SAF will have his scouts watching Zaha for the next month or so, just to make sure last night was not a one off.

Zaha decent in the first northing in the second then nothing again till the second half of injury time , the commentators wouldn't shut up about him , it's amazing how much there opinion effects

Last night wasn't a one off 'Vidic' bud.

Zaha (Wilf) has come on bundles this season. I've my doubts he'd ever be a regular first-teamer at a club as big as Utd but saying that, training with top class players everyday can only improve him. Time will tell i guess.
Victor Moses was our last 'world beater' (i won't mention John Bostock!) according to some and he's now at Wigan, albeit doing well, but no worldbeater.
Our Academy is very good. A recent result was Chelsea 0-4 Palace. We've a few more Zahas waiting to come through. It's just a shame that we generally have to sell.
Oh well. Maybe some day we'll cement our place in the Prem
